Default HELP! Does this sound like a blown engine to you guys?

**OFFICIALLY MY PROBLEM NOW!** I bought it!

Hello Guys,

( GS NEWB )
I need your help on some diagnosis by video.

This guy was told his car needs a new engine. A little background on this car, @ 189K it Had a Timing Belt kit done..water pump etc etc. 2 days later, ( I watched a video of this happening ) The car was hissing white smoke just behind the upper rad hose housing, And ran rough. The radiator cap disintegrated leaving the spring and some metal ring inside the rad which I later fished out. I assume some rubber is still in there. I also noticed the reservoir had a leak/gash in it, so I temp. patched it with plastic weld.

* No CEL codes but I observed the oil light on
* Found in Glovebox Toyota paperwork and it read previous DTC prior to repair P01349 & P0441

* I'll be buying a compression tester, and also do a leak down test

Here's a vid if you guys can help.........

Thanks,
Joel

So, was the timing belt and WP work done AFTER the guy was told the engine was blown... OR... was the work done and then the diagnosis?

Was it running poorly prior to the work or only after?

The water leak is likely due to an incorrect replacement of the thermostat housing when the above work was done. The poor running could be many things including an incorrectly installed TB.

More info needed.

Look up your CEL codes:

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...cel-codes.html

P01349 - looks like your VVT timing is off; I would redo the timing stuff asap after I get the motor apart.

P0441 - similar to 0446 - check vac hoses, vapor pressure circuit/sensor/, evap system/valve/hoses, fuel tank issues, fuel pressure issues, ecm.

Drain your radiator; as in flush it out with distilled water and make sure theres no particles or contaminants in there. Use some cheap fluid just in case your motor is blown.

I'll post a vid later of my engine running if you need it, just lmk.

that doesn't sound like a "blown motor", blown up engines don't run at all.it does sound like the timing is incorrect and or a bad crank/ rod bearing. possibly even a bad water pump? i have heard some water pumps make noise that can only be described as a horrible racket, and someone better call a tow truck.

Wow sorry I havent interacted with you all. I never saw the updates in my subscription list. In my thread viewable via clicking gold member in my sig. I have decided for now just to replace the engine. I cover it in a little more detail as to why but I do believe this motor may have some bent valves and bad bearings. If I can get my replacement engine for a good price without core exchange I'll be keeping this for a side build. I'd really love to do a DIY rebuild for everyone.

Thanks for all the responses,
Joel.

What engine are you going to replace with? I heard doing a 2jz on a gs4 is a bit difficult.
