Default Requesting Favor - Wing Operation Video

Hello, all.

Just had my wing replaced due to a defect in the CF, and just tested it standing outside with the engine off, and thought it was a little loud going down and dropped suddenly at the end.

Unfortunately, I never bothered to test it the same way before the fix, and never really paid attention to the sounds or operations, so have no idea if this is normal.

The dealer doesn't have another one for comparison, so I'm hoping a few of you could help by posting a video with sound of the wing going up and then down from outside the car, engine off.

Going up you can hear the motor, but everything is fairly quiet. Going down there's a clunk (assuming the lock is releasing) then smooth for a bit, then it drops the last few inches quickly with another clunk.

Appreciate if you could help by posting a few videos.

Thanks!

Hummmm.....I don't hear anything on my active wing going up and down even manually pushing the active wing button with the engine just idling. I was not aware you can operate the active wing up and down without having the engine actually running. I'll have to try it and see. But of course under "normal operation" conditions, I have the Borla exhaust system and under acceleration I really don't hear much EXCEPT for the big V8 ROAR. LOL

Yep, even with the regular exhaust, never heard anything on deceleration before, but the engine.

I pushed the on button twice without holding the brake pedal, put the car in "Ignition On" mode....driver window down and stood outside and reached in to hold down the wing button. The sounds and the sudden drop at the end where what I was concerned about.

Thanks!

Short answer, it sounds very normal. I do hear the motor and then the 'thunk' when the spoiler drops in the slot.

Thanks!

Does yours also make a 'thunk' initially? Here's mine...actually sounds louder on the video, probably due to the closed garage door.

Quite possible. I will check out the video when I get home and get back to you on this. Don't want to play audio while I am in the office.

A bit hard to accurately gauge because of the door closing in the back. The motor noise sounds quite normal. I think mine is almost as loud. However the 'thunk' noise in the beginning is hard to differentiate as the garage door masks it. Can you make another one without the door closing?

Now you're scaring me. The garage door was already closed before I started.

I've attached one with the door open. All noises are the rear wing.

Thanks.

Yeah, that is definitely significantly louder than what I hear from mine. Just a thunk when it drops and a light motor noise. When I am in the cabin, I cannot hear or feel anything while it is going up or down. Also, I opened the trunk a few times and I don't get a whooshing noise. Just a slight hissing noise. That is pretty much it. Hope that helps.

Thanks, bummer, was worried about that.

Anyone else? Can a few others check their wings retracting? Would really appreciate a few more data points.

There are several other threads here which show how someone removed their stock piece to install the CF one. I believe I saw the actuation of BOTH which always have an audible motor - nothing loud enough to create concern on final close though. Like I said, nothing I've seen (heard) displayed any "lock" type sound. I do know that last week at my local car show I simply hit my start button twice, and "held" the activating button - which put the piece in its upright location. (I did it twice) Since the car was NOT running I could easily hear the motor drive, but nothing out of ordinary movement. The "Search" link is your friend here so dig around, ask one of the Vendors who sell these pieces (Josh@Meraki) who should be able to help.

Personally, though you can drive around with it up all the time, I leave it down - unless parked at a car show / meet or while driving. Hate to suggest it, but there are times a good Service Writer, or Tech at your Dealership will take a look at it without a R.O. Depends on how close you are w yours? Let us know!

I wonder if the new spoiler isn't quite lined up perfectly so that it sort of "snaps" or "clunks" into place when lowering it down. Just a thought.

My 15 started doing that , it would go down and make a loud noise , I took it to the dealership and it was the wing module that went bad , it should be covered under warranty
