Default Not very knowlegble with cars,5000$ to spend on performance upgrades, what to get?

Hello everyone.

I just purchased a 99 GS 400,its totally stock.

I have 5 grand to spend on performance parts, and I want to improve my 0-60 and 1/4 mile mostly, without sacrificing too much top end.I would also like to improve the handling.

Like I mentioned,I'm not very knowlegable about cars.I just started researching my butt off and have a lot to learn.Any opinons, tips or basic info you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

$5K...

If you don't care much about handling (just 0-60 like you said), then...

- Precision Industries Torque Converter (helps put power to ground better)
- Swift Racing Intake w/ ECU (not a major increase but some)
- Freer flowing exhaust (Borla, L-Tuned at one end, or GReddy at other extreme but much noisier)
- Lighter rims (will definitely make a difference)

Lose weight!

you could do some good stuff with $5k to start. i say a good set of rims and tires for $3500 will be a big handling and look improvement. and i know you want good looks, we all do, but some won't admit it. a little over $500 for TRD sway bars from l-tunedparts.com, which will make a giant handling difference. $1k left? get an exhaust that Bit recommended, and the SRT intake/ecu. maybe $5500 overall, but a excellent and well-balanced start or finish to your car

A limited slip differential. I'd suggest with your criteria the Torsen from the supra with a somewhat lower ratio.
And, were you to contact Steve Ganz at Carson Toyota, he can give you good advice.
The LSD will get the horses to the pavement, others can tell you better how to get more horses.

LSDs are great, but i think that a LSD and a torque converter kinda go hand in hand. benefits are limited by themselves, but increase by a whopping about together

Thank you everyone.I'm checking into each and every suggestion.

One thing I need an opinion on,for roughly 5700$ plus shipping I can get an SRT stage 2 supercharger from here.
http://www.i-m-racing.com/srtstagiisup3.html

What is the price of a stage 2 ordered directly from SRT?

I'm not sure of the shipping cost,I'm emailing them tonight on it,but does anyone have any idea of how much this would cost to get installed in So Cal?Any So Cal bro's that could point me in the write direction if I decide to go with this?Depending on the cost of shipping/installation I'm thinking this would be my best bet for performance.I realize it wont help my handling, but down the road I can get that taken care of.

I don't know,a SC might be too much for me,but its tempting. If I can buy it,have it shipped to me,and have it installed for less then 7000$ then I'll do it.

They used to have the dyno charts on their web site, Swift Racing , but I think they have removed them since they are redoing their SC packages. Several people here have the original version, and according to them, it's worth every penny! The new versions should be even better, and not to pump you up too much, but SRT also offers a twin turbo for the GS... big bucks though.
