Default GS3 maintenance

Is the engine an interference or non-interference type? When is it recommended to change the timing belp? Is $65 for oil changes typical? I'm doing about 1000 a week and I'm not looking forward to paying out the a$$ for maintenance! I see some people are quoted $1200 for 60k maintenance.

I'm guess if that is the going rate, I'll be spending a lot more time under my GS than I ever did under my Maximas.

Russ - First , you should post this in the maintenance section of CL and i bet you would get a whole lot more feedback.

I have no clue on the timing belt . The 60k service includes a long list of things the dealer does . Too long to list . Some will debate if you need the service or just a plain oil change . But at 60k , make sure to get oil + tranny fluid changed .

Most dealers actually have 2 types of oil change service .

The 65 dollar one , includes a loaner car , inspect all fluids and etc. I'm not going to try and list the whole work sheet.

The 20 dollar one , is just a plain ole oil and filter change .

Thats the difference , just consult your service advisor.

What i do is , at every 30k , i take my car to get the full service by lexus , then in between , i just change the oil myself .

WHERE THE HECK DO U GO FR AN OIL CHANGE THAT MUCH?
THAT'S AN "ARM" AND A "LEG" UR TALKING ABOUT...

OIL CHANGE: DO IT YRSELF....CHARGE?? ONLY 20 BUCKS FR OIL.
I RECOMMEND MOBIL 1 SYNTHETIC.....5/30 OR 10/30 WEIGHTS.

i believe theyre non-interface engines. most toyotas are.

its a lot safer to change the belt at 60k though. dont really wanna risk having breaking a belt in your 1000k a week commute.
