Default P.I t/c And S.R.T Air Intake No Big Difference.

I recently ran my 98 gs4 (with 60k miles on it) at the track and only pulled off a(the days best) 14.69 E/T (plugs were pretty bad also) at 95.03 mph and 60 time of 2.23. A month later went back with my S.R.T intake and P.I. t/c and only pulled off a (days best again) 14.60 at 94.65 mph, 60 time was 2.11( sh#*ty tires). The first Iwent it was 79 degrees out, not to humid, but the second time I went it was about 98 degrees out very humid, and my check engine light was on(cleaned the CATS out when I changed the t/c) Getting to the point I was expecting a low 14s or high 13s run(on nice day of course). Has anyone else tried this performance combo and if so what E/T gains did u get? Also if anybody an has an idea how much power the car is losing with check engine light on let PM me. Last has anybody tried the O2 simulators for the GS4 so this problem doesnt occur, or if anyone wants to get rid of set of CATS for the GS4 PM me.(JUST WANT THAT DAMN LIGHT TO GO OFF KNOW)

Sounds like you just need some practice! My stock time were better than your Mod times. I don't have the TC but I can run you times on a full tank of gas When you go back to the track power brake until your tires began to brake. I know you can get a better time than that! You should be in the 13.7 or 13.8s. Oh and I have 88,000 miles on my GS

Good luck

Thumbs up

I'm pretty sure u ran better than my mod time , but did u run on 98 degree day, with your check engine light on, and I had wheelspin, so I cant power brake anymore than I already did. I'd be damn happy to run a 13.9 even with these mods.

i read somewhere that when your check engine light is on that the GS's go into "safe" mode. it was mentioned in a post about a week or so ago. regardless of your times for the day, your traps should have been better. i dont have the TC and my times sucked by my traps were around 98 or so. ill trade you my traps for your ET

Did you heat your tires up? also were you bracket racing or time trials it makes a difference in the reaction time! Also like DrRick said your trap speed is too low 98mph is where you want to be, as far as the check engine light I would get the checked out.

yes. safe mode is when the check engine light is on it adds more fuel to the mixture causing the engine to run rich. it does this im assuming because richer is safer than lean. Safe... smart.. but slow.

Sounds like a Volvo commercial. Although I've found that those same slow Volvo drivers are often some of the worst on the road.

their sheer lack of speed on highways make them dangerous roadblocks too

I think this thread title is misleading. rtc1978 you say no big difference yet the stock test was at 79 degrees and the intake/tc test was at 98 degrees with the check engine light on.

Suggest you get the check engine light fixed (usually related to intake hoses not being snug/tight and then do a re-test at similar temps to the stock test.
