I have to agree with taejin09. I have Greddy SE and it is not loud at all. No drone and a great deep sound when you start or get into it going through a garage.... ;-)
Hey all, thanks for the input. Just to clarify, I wasn't expecting g35 sound from an IS, just like I wouldn't expect v8 sound from a v6. I meant it just as a point of reference for a sound characteristic I like. Sorry if that frustrated some.
I went ahead and got the tanabe and just finished installing it. It sounds pretty good. I guess at 2500 rpm with moderate throttle, I noticed a drone. Would a mid-pipe make that better or worse? I don't want to make it any louder, at least not now. Do exhausts have a "break-in" period? Do they tend to get louder or quieter?
Also, this is probably a stupid question, but does a mid-pipe remove the secondary cats? Is that largely the function of it?
I love my Tanabe, doesnt drone unless (like stated above) your cruising uphill for a bit. But its still not loud and obnoxious. I can talk on my cell via bluetooth and can hear eveything clear
honestly, these drones people speak of... I could barely hear it. I don't drive with no music... I like to listen to loud music! lol so to me this drone does not exist hahaha. But tanabe FTW!
Thanks for the info guys. I think I just prefer stock. I guess like a few of you pointed out, this experiment was an expensive stupid mistake. Anyway, I swapped it back for stock and am going to sell the tanabe. I can see why you guys like it, it does have a nice purr at times, I guess I just prefer the stealth stock exhaust when navigating traffic.
