so my check engine light has been on over a week now with the check vsc ... i brought it into the dealer and they plugged it into the comp, it said that my o2 sensor was causing this and they printed me out the cost to "fix" it and it was like 450 bucks???!?!?

anyone know how i could fix this with out bringing it to the dealer ... i dont think its because of my exhaust i have the full megan oe rs cat back system... and i took out my cats also... but ive had this done for a while now over 2 -3 months and all of a sudden the light came on recently .. any suggestions??

 

The sensor is easy to replace, so I suggest ordering a new sensor online from Carson, Sewell, or Park Place. The only tool you will need is an O2 sensor wrench. Don't cut the heat sync off as others do in order to use regular wrenches.

 

BTW, you should confirm which sensor is bad by going to an AutoZone to have the DTC code pulled. I suspect the $450 price you were quoted was for a primary sensor, but I would expect your issue to be with a secondary sensor if you recently had your cats removed. I would also expect the dealer to warranty the primary sensors since there's no way that your aftermarket exhaust could have caused one of them to go bad. I would be surprised if a new secondary sensor was more than $100 online.

Why not cut the heat shield off? I was wondering this as I took a dremell to the heat shield on my O2 sensors the other weekend. OOPS

 

If you cut the heat sync off, then the sensor will run hotter. Depending on your driving habits and climate, the sensors may not perform well, or may not last as long.

 

i just had my megan mids and tanabe exhaust installed today. as soon as i drove home my check engine / check VSC light came on. did the guy mess up with the O2 sensor? What do you guys suggest?

 

o2 socket is less than 10 bucks.
