I wonder what the outcome of this will all be... In < 1 year my 4-year warranty will be up. Might just have a little fun.

theres no aftermarket for the IS...too much research and development needed to do this and not enough ROI to justify it.

Unless someone can figure out how to tune the engine management system properly, its gonna be more of a show turbo kit than a performance one. But he is building a show car.

Unless someone figures out how to lower the compression ratio of the engine by "tuning" it then the ECU problem will continue to be irrelevant to the reason you don't see decent power out of a boosted application on the car. That's why I don't expect much out of this kit unless they change the engine internals like they did for their IS-F SEMA turbo car. (which would put the kit cost into the "stupid" range)

TOMs in japan -can- tune the ECU and they got a whopping 0.8 lbs of boost more than LMS did with their untuned supercharger kit in the US.

The ECU isn't the problem here. 11.8:1 compression is. The whole aluminum block with thin iron sleeves issue might be a limiting factor as well. Lack of tuning, not so much.

yes, that is definitely the major issue with boosting our engine. as soon as a company releases lower compression pistons/forged internals...then i will look into boosting my car.

Look into something called the DMCA... if a company was selling a commercial product that involved cracking the encryption you can -bet- they'd be sued. For a lot.

If some guy does it in his garage at home probably nobody'll notice... but good luck with that.

As to the forged piston thing- that's not easy either... The piston crowns have a patented shape which works with the DI programming to create a stratified charge effect. Changing the dome of the piston will mean lots of trial and error unless you can get someone with intimate knowledge of how the piston dome needs to be shaped to help with your project (which would be a lexus engineer in japan).

Thicker head gasket wouldn't be great either- it will ruin the squish height and in all likelihood create more opportunity for detonation. All the late model Toyota engines use an angled squish area to force the a/f mixture toward the plug in the combustion chamber. If the gap between the piston and the head is too great, this effect won't work and will promote detonation.

(the bits of trivia above on the piston and HG stolen from Lobuxracers previous posts on the subject)

I dont know why you are hating on him. Let him do whatever he wants to do to his car. If you think he shouldnt you could just straight up tell him, instead of using a sarcastic tone.
