Right. You have a license to operate the software, not reverse engineer it, modify it, or change it in any way. It is encrypted for this reason. Breaking the encryption requires violating DMCA. So in theory, Lexus/Toyota/Scion could sue you. The same is true for the navigation software, and if you look in the back of the navigation owner's manual, you will see the EULA you didn't agree to when you bought the car.
I dont know why you are hating on him. Let him do whatever he wants to do to his car. If you think he shouldnt you could just straight up tell him, instead of using a sarcastic tone.
