Default GS 430 K&N Filter Install

Just installed a K&N airfilter on my 01 GS 430. It took about 30 seconds. The stock filter is cheap thick paper and the K&N is thin and well put together. This is a filter replacement only , not the entire airbox.

Noticed an immediate difference on the road. The engine seemed less constrained and more responsive. No extra noise and it works well with my L Tuned mufflers.

Got it on line from Martel Brothers for $40.

Bottom Line: Buy it

This confirms my reaction when I put mine in. I thought I was imagining it though.

I usually drive in "4th" around town and offline. Have not noticed any hesitation.

If you nail it will making a right hand turn from a dead stop the VSC might temporarily kick in and slow you down for a second

I agree - M-4, or just 4th if it's a GS430 or pre-2001 GS3 (i.e., without e-shift) helps. I will say though, that resetting the ECU (I pulled the fuse for about 2 minutes - piece of cake) did seem to make the car more willing to downshift, and more responsive in general.

Ok i know this doesn't have to do with this topic but I didn't want to start a new thread about this, and It was never answered on the last thread about this, But When u guys step on the Gas completely, Does ur guy's GS shift at like 6000 RPM's or does it go all the way to 6350 RPMs, because my car shifts at 6000 RPMs even after I reset the ECU... Also when I use M1-M2 and so on, to race, the RPM's will go all the way to the redline before shifting, so is there someone wrong with the Computer or is it like that with every GS??

Show - going to redline isn't the way to get maximum power. Usually torque and HP curves go down before the red line. The red line is really just a rev limit beyond which the manufacturer thinks you'll damage the engine - it's not the place you get max. power.

Either way, with ECT and without ECT through all the gears it does that, No Matter what i do it switchs at 6000 RPM's, and Someone had brought this up on a thread a while ago, But.... they said that it just started happening with his car, I asked in the thread but no one was answering because it was kinda old. IM assuming that it's not a normal thing though. Does this happen to anyone elses GS? Pay attention next time u guys Step on the gas off the line and let me know if it goes all the way to the redline. Thanks in advanced

I'm picking up the K&N air filter tomorrow for my 1999 GS400. Regarding resetting the ECU, is this the process:

1. Disconnect the battery
2. Install K&N air filter
3. Re-connect battery

If this is incorrect, please let me know. Thanks.

ShowGS:

In a Car and Driver article, the author noted that the transmission shifts at 6000rpm when using manual mode, so I guess this is done by design.

Here's the article:
