Angry K&N filter install PROBLEMS...please help.

I went on a mission to install my K&N cone filter today. Once I finally removed the airbox the snorkle would not come off. I found 1 skrew that held it on...but not the other. I got the Rt. one but I cant seem to find the other one. Plus, how often should i clean my filter. The box says ever 50k miles, but that seems a aweful long time. THanks for the help.

I wish I could help you since I have done it to my car, but I don't remember. It wasn't that hard. I think the last thing you might have to do it snap it out. It's not a screw that's holding it. Don't worry about cleaing it a lot. You will clean it when it's dirty. 50k miles seems about right.

I don't understand? The snorkel doesn't come out? The way I remember doing it was to remove the snorkel first and if I recall correctly it's only held in by one screw. After that, the airbox is removed by locating all visible screws (3 or 4 of them?). I can double check to see how I did it later on tonight.

It's on the underside if I remember... I think I had to take off the plastic cover on the bottom of the bumper, and reach up in there to get it. Pulling it out is a pain in the a s s too.

Mine had two screws holding the snorkel. The second one was underneath the headlamp. I had to take out the headlamp to get to it, but it was easy.

Default How'd it go?

I'm just now reading your thread.
You're not the only one having problems with the removal. It was a total pain, but it was a lot of jiggling that got it out. It turns out that the last thing holding it in was a square with the 4 screws on the corners.

I used the end of a screwdriver to push the screws out from the inside. Let me know if this sounds right to you. How far did you get? After this, putting the new filter on is a breeze.

Good luck, Marty

Well I've had a MAF K&N setup with a heat shield on it for a while now and after reading through Pete's dyno day page once more, I decided to make a backing and some seals out of foam. What a difference! There's no more bogging and it kicks right off the line. I also put in one more screw into the top piece to seal it off better. It is pretty much an air-tight box with ONE opening through the brake vent where a ram air scoop lies. Last night was a pretty frisky night with a cool 40 degree breeze and I had four people in my SC. I noticed I could still accelerate as hard as before I had a backing piece.

heh, I have been so buisy lately studying for finals i havent had a moment to spare. I am still drivin my car with snorke in. It dosent seem to hurt sooo i havent removed it yett. Well, push's harder in the upper RPM range and sounds really cool to boot, but after driving all day it seems to be a bit slower in the lower RPM's (havent installed mt heatshield yett). Hopefully with my heatshield and the "foam" thing i will gain off the line. I am just trying to find a day now where i am not working to remove the snorkle, add my heatshield, and hopefully polish up my head lamps. Thanks to all for the help on this one.

Weird thing.. when I was dyno'ing my car, we took the lid off my intake and lost 4 hp. A sealed setup does it right... strange.

you prob. lost 4hp cuz your engine bay was all filled up with heat and all you were dooing was sucking hot air in your car (hp killer).

The hood was open and a fan is always on at the front of the shop to prevent heat soaking.
