I would go Vvti, newer technology, same strength as a non-vvti gte motor. Yes, the vvti is a little more difficult to work with but HKS makes cams for it, not that big of a deal.
You will see more power on bottom than a non-vvti motor with just as much on top because of the vvti system. The bottom end on a Vvti Gte is the same as a non-vvti Gte, strength is a non issue.
If your standalone engine management system can tune the VVTi, then you'll decrease some lag out of a dig. In these cases it would be beneficial to run the VVTi motor if your ecu can tune for it.
Well, stock for stock the vvti is making quite a bit more on bottom, I compared dyno's between multiple cars and the vvti was making quite a bit of difference. I agree tuning is more difficult but the F-Con Vpro is fully capable of controlling vvti, they even make a plug and play harness for the Gs/Aristo...Can't wait to get mine
