Default oval tips on Tanabe

Hi all,

I just ordered a Tanabe exhaust system recently. I went for the Tanabe because it has the least aggressive tone at low speeds/RPMs. I am not a fan of circular exhaust tips and I really like the OEM oval style ones (TOMs / Fabulous ). I am planning on welding oval ones to the Tanabe, what should I lookout for?

I don't know much about welding so someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think if you cut off the original tips and weld new ones on, you run the risk of getting rust and discoloration at the point where you weld them. You could probably paint that area after welding but it probably won't come out looking as nice as the original look. Make sure you use good quality stainless tips or they will also rust or discolor from the heat over time... I used some cheap tips sold at a muffler shop on my other car, and they looked great for a while but then started rusting a little and turned a little bronze from the constant heat. In general I think the rule of thumb is do it right, don't cut corners or else it will show further down the road.

Still do not know why you would want to change the original Tanabe tips....they are the best looking tips on the market.

Just make sure they are welded correctly and you shouldn't have any problems or rust. I don't know why you would spent that much money and cut the tips. Just find a muffler that you might like and out your own tips. Someone here did that and it sounded good.

I think once you have them on your car, you won't want
to weld the oem tips on. (Unless of course you've already
seen them in person and didn't like'em).
