Question Intake noise question

I just installed a K&N Typhoon intake yesterday. I double checked to make sure everything is tight. When I barely tap the gas I hear a turbo wind like noise. Kind of like when you position your lips to whistle but instead of blowing out air, suck in air. That is the noise it makes when I barely give it gas. Kind of holding it at about 1700-2000 RPM in 6th gear. It sounds awesome at WOT, but am concerned I have a air leak somewhere. All I need to know is if this is normal. Please give me your thoughts.

I think I have the same exact noise as you. It's only at low RPM and it's very subtle. I can't tell if it's coming from the intake or if it's engine noise through the speakers. Either way, it's pretty annoying to me.

Sounds like a normal sound to expect from an intake. I got that kind of noise in the last car I installed an aftermarket intake. The Fujita I have in the IS350 does not make that noise (or any noise) until ~3500rpm.

Anyone else with the K&N Typhoon find it annoying, because I had planned on ordering one this week. Any K&N intake system I had on other cars did produce a sound like you are describing but I never found it annoying, so trying to determine if this is just normal or to what degree of annoying you are suggesting?

It is not annoying to me as long as it is not a air leak, but a normal sound. I only hear it with the windows down and the radio off.

If you have double checked the install, then I would assume it is just normal....It is not a complicated setup. Part of the appeal of an intake, as well as any performance increase, is the increased flow of air and the being able to hear this. I would not worry, enjoy knowing your engine is breathing better. I am going ahead and ordering mine tomorrow. I have always been happy with K&N in the past.

Most intakes are supposed to have a whistling noise at idle. Got pics?

Ah, the good old days when we could hear that 4 barrel sucking. Sorry you missed it.

i've had it for almost 9 months now and the sound your talking about is normal. its just the intake manifold releasing some extra pressure when you open it up really quick.

Do you guys hear any rattling noise at WOT from after installing the aftermarket intake system?

I have Fujita.

When i was buying my is350 i test drove two different ones. The first i drove sounded AWESOME, at full throttle that thing wailed. I actually thought it was an exhaust while i was driving. When i got back from the drive i looked at the mufflers and they were stock. The next car i drove and the one i ended up buying doesnt sound anything like that at WOT. You all with the aftermarket intake say it sounds awesome at WOT above 3.5-4k rpm. What kind of sound is your intake make. The sound i heard wasnt a woosh/sucking/turbo noise kind of sound, this definitely sounded like exhaust, but like i said he did have the stock mufflers. I guess i may never find out, cant go back to the dealer and look around more since i already bought my is350 somewhere else. If changing the intake gives the engine noise i heard at the dealer ill definitely do it; might try to remove the resonated snorkel thats pre-air filter first. Another way i would describe the noise is the engine noise you hear during a car racing video game while revving the engine or something like that.

Can you guys describe the noise youre getting at WOT just from the intakes.
