Default Check Engine, VSC, and VSC Lights

Hi folks. First time here, and I'm glad I came across this forum in my searches because you all seem like a plethora of good information.

Earlier today I got an oil change done on the car; 2000 GS300 (just took it to the regular Jiffy Lube, same place I've been going for years). I left Jiffy Lube fine, drove probably 15 miles, got a carwash, and headed home. As I pulled in my neighborhood (I was making a slow left turn at the time), the Check Engine, VSC, and VSC off lights came on. The car then kind of stopped accellerating (when I pushed the accellerator nothing seemed to happen), so I used whatever momentum I had to pull to the side of the road and turned the car off. Turned it back on maybe 30 seconds later and the lights came on, but I was able to drove home successfully with no problem.

Waited about another hour and went back to the car; lights are still on but I drove around the block a couple of times with no problem. I am going to attempt to find place that will read the codes for me and see if I can figure out what the heck is going on, but was wondering if anyone thinks the oil change would have any correlation? Any help would be greatly appreciated; I need to drive 40 miles to school in the morning and don't want the car breaking down on the way. Thanks!

I had the same problem a while back. It was my accelerator position sensor. I don't think your oil change and this problem is related. There have been quite a few people that have had this issue. I suggest going somewhere and have them pull the trouble codes to be sure. I had to take mine to the dealer for repair, but I remember someone fixing it themselves (I think it was DaShocker?). May wanna do a search there are many threads on this issue.

Thanks for the replies! Right after I posted the message I went down to the car to head to the nearest Autozone, and the lights were gone. Drove it around the block, all seemed fine. Took it to Jiffy Lube and had them check everything, which there were no problems, and the lights haven't come back on. I guess I'll keep an eye on it and hope it was just a small glitch, but will defeintely re-post if anything else occurs, just as a reference to others who might have the issue.

You might want to reset the ECU too. Just pull the ECU-B fuse and let it sit out for about 45 minutes.

I have encounter this same problem with my GS400, the symtoms you describe are the same as mine. No acceleration, restart car and off she goes. I fixed over the weekend. It ended by the TPS sensor. The CEL code was P0120 TPS malfunction. Should this happen to you next time, you still have some pedal acceleration just push it to the floor. BTW after driving for a while my CEL too went off, until the problem occur again then is came on. Good Luck!!!

Were there any error codes stored in the ECM ? They can be read without the error lamps illuminated.

It's interesting that people are posting about different sensors causing the same problem. I had the exact same issue but mine turned out to be the steering angle sensor. Of course it is a $700 job to fix but it solved the problem.

Good luck.
