Gs400 owners with SRT intake please read
Hi folks, i have a 99 GS400 and just got my SRT intake with ECU installed, took me about an hour or so nothing too hard
. I love the sound of the intake produce
, however does any of u notice the intake inlet pipe does get hot as hell ? ( is it hot air bad for performance ?
) Is there a better way to cool down the incoming cold air ?

You can always wrap the pipe with some heat shielding pads. I think some guys with turbos wrap the turbo to shield it from heat. Not sure about that.
But really, you want to make sure the air going in is cooler than the engine bay air... A true cold air intake would be routed directly into the space behind the bumper and just in front of the wheel well cover. this would be a better solution. I used to have one on my Infiniti G20 and it was so much better than a short ram intake (which is what the SRT essentially is).

AW,
If you look down at the bottom of your front air dam, you'll see a little plastic square cutout. SRT punched out that square on my GS when I had the intake installed years ago - lets more cool air come into the area where the intake is.
You can also search for 'Kaju cold airbox' and see what some members did to help insulate the intake / maximize the cooler air.

DAVEGS4 i did punched out the little square cutout next to the foglight, i think a custom pipe or somekind of flex tube that route the cold air from the cutout up to where the airfilter is will be ideal. But the inlet tube is gonna be hot no matter what cause of the engine heat.

Try looking for the cold airbox I mentioned above. It's an insulated airbox to help protect the intake from the heat of the engine bay.
I had one on my GS (before I sold the intake and put on supercharger), worked great.
