Default LMS Supercharger...

I just ordered my Exhaust from Steve at LMS and got to talking to him about new parts coming out for the IS 350. He said that they have front and rear strut bars coming out, and also the supercharger. He said that the kit makes about 306 to the wheels and is running 4.5 lbs of boost. Also it will be out next month or so and will cost $5000. He say their test vehicle has been run very hard since Feb. and still runs like a champ.

My question is if this kit breaks something on the engine what would that be? How much damage could this do to the car? I am very interested in this and he says many others are also interested in this kit too. I am interested in worse case senario. If something does happen can you just take it off and take it to the Lexus dealer and say something is wrong with my car? Can they tell if you have been running a supercahrger?

Did he say if theres any plans for the supercharger to be fitted to the IS250? I know everyone will say if you wanted a faster car then why wouldn't you of just purcahsed the IS350, but I wanted the manual transmission the IS250 offered.. it'd be nice to have power closer to the IS350 and the manual transmission.

$5000 for ~30+ bhp doesn't seem like a great deal. 4.5 lbs in a 3.5 liter engine should bump hp up by anywhere from 80-120.

Regardless, can't say with any certainty but worst case, you'll throw a con rod and that'll pretty much kill the block. You'll have a nice see-through port where it exits the engine.

You won't be able to fool anyone after that happens.

I think it will make more than 30 hp. He said 306hp to the wheels. Doesnt a stock IS 350 make 250-260 to the wheels? If so thats a 50-60hp increase.

Most of the one's I've seen are just over 260 and I think I've seen one at 269. Regardless, 50-60 bhp is what you should get from $5000 worth of (usually very safe) bolt-ons, not FI.

Well 4.5 lbs should only be making 45-60 at the wheels, which it sounds to be right there (figure 1lb of boost unintercooled boost would =10-15whp.

However because of the high compression it will be tough to get a lot of boost out of a forced induction application (just take a look at LS1's in camaros and Firebirds 1998+)

Whats nice about the supercharger is just 1 item getting you that much power and hopefully easily returned to stock.... Of course until we see some pictures of what the install looks like we won't really know.

Where as to get the same power boost N/A you're looking at intake manifolds/cams/exhaust/heads or head work.... (who knows if we'll ever see a set of heads for this engine??) Which other than the intake manifold, might not be such an easy venture.

Of course a lot depends on what we will see tuning wise. If someone can't crack the computer tuning of it all, there won't be a lot to gain for anyone.

What about them?? I was running 10 psi of boost in a 2001 WS6 Firebird and nothing ever went south on me even at 9.5:1, granted it's not close to the 12:1 that the 250 has(I think) but the LS1 I had was a stock motor and a dam quick car!!!

I dont think there is going to be a FI kit for the 250 manual...because I heard that the manual tranny cannot handle the extra torque output by the 350, hence there is no 350 manual.

I would think that your tranny would go before the engine does, but who knows... My question is, can the SC be run using the stock exhaust? I would love to have the added power but don't want to put up with any more noise then I need to.

If you had the $5,000 plus $500-$1,000 for installation, why didn't you
just get the IS350 from the start?

You don't really need to change the exhaust. It will help (especially in a turbo application) but it's not a necessity.
