i am thinking about doing this swap later but i have a few questions, what is the difference between the color of the tops? and why is the older non vvti motor more powerful? which is a better swap in terms of price power and how hard it is to install the gte or the gtte?
They are both the GTE, one is a later model with VVT-I.
Burgandy, I'm sending you a PM... I have a few questions. Also, if anyone who is reading this has some electrical background on this swap (rather than just having a shop do it) could you please pm/e-mail/IM me? I'm planning on doing this on my own rather than having someone else do it.

Wow. What a great thread. I have been struggling to get this 2nd gen VVTi swap running on the JDM ecu for months. It's a 98 GS300. Are people really running both ecu's? and piggy back?
I have the GS300 wiring diagrams, but not the USDM/JDM ecu pinouts. The stupid manual only has abbreviations and no listing of what they mean. I have been trying to bypass the immobilizer circuit with no sucess.
Does anyone know how to do this? Do I have to use both ecu's? That's fine with me at this point. I want to run the engine on the correct turbo ignition/VVTi maps. I need to get the gauges to work also. I have had this dead car way too long and need to finish it asap.
I'm not running 2 ecu's. The MAP-ecu is a piggy back that eliminates your maf and fuel cut. I'm running the stock aristo ecu and only some pinouts changed. I'm not a wire guy but it looks pretty simple. This guy had it running in about 3 hrs. But he also has a lot of experience with engine swaps.

I have that covered. Gonna use greddy EMU.

Is there anyone who can share their pinout information. I am a wiring guy. I've done swaps. It is straight forward if you have the pinouts. I don't have the pinouts. I have the lexus wiring diagrams for the gs300, but not the aristo. The diagrams I have seem to be a supplement. Lots of abbreviations with no explanation.
Thank you. I still need more. Anyone????? I'll send you a box of "tastykakes"! Please!
EDIT: Wait, I just realized the EMU manuals have partial pinouts. I'm gonna look at these today. Is all the info I need in those diagrams? I'll update later.
I will see what I can do. My bigest problem, was a jumper plug that I had kept in the car from the GS300 ecu. It is located in the connectors to the right of the ECU. The color of the jumper plug should match the color of the plug it is connected to. If i remember correct it is orang.
