Default TC installation...

OUCH!!!! my pockets are gonna be a little soar lol.. I just bought a PI TC from another member of CL... I have been to 3 trans shops and they want alot of dough to install the TC with a trans cooler,

first shop $650
sencond 700
third shop 650

am I getting ripped here? what price should I be looking at for an install? from what I seen from other member I think it was right around 400-550.

edit: BTW 2 of those shops recommend I dont install the TC without a rebuild.

that's about right. 600 bucks is not bad imho. it takes a long time and you take up that space on the lift

no need for rebuild, just make sure you get tranny coolor as well

I agree with Adam, but I might up the high side to 400, and that's still with having an inside contact.

My local lexus dealer wanted something like $550 or so (it's in an old post here), but I kept asking friends and came across someone that just had work done locally at a tranny shop.

My friend put in a good word about me and I visited the place and they charged me $325 out the door. (cash transaction, and I had to "wait for an opening"......ie a lull in the business) The cost of new tranny fluid was on top of that.

My car had about 100,000 miles on it and we did NOT do a rebuild. THOSE GUYS ARE JUST TRYING TO SUCK MORE MONEY OUT OF YOU! I highly doubt that you need a rebuild.
You do need a tranny cooler though, and I had to install mine myself which was no big deal. Cost is only $45 or so and can be done in a driveway in 60-90min easily.

The work is not actually too difficult, but, it is labor intensive and you really need the lift to make it easier! I've pulled many a tranny and swapped convertors, I'm sure about what is involved with the work.

Keep price shopping man!! Walk up in confidence and tell them that you know it's not a 7hr job!

Why the hell do you need a rebuild?? What exactly needs rebuilt to up your stall speed?? Bring your money elsewhere to someone who isn't trying to rip you off.

This sounds about right. I was quoted 650.00 for the TC & LSD.

Are those prices including the trans cooler or just installing the cooler?? If that includes them buying the cooler that can add $100-150 for the cooler and and $50 installing it. to the bill. You can get a good one for $50 and install it your self. it is not hard.
I'd say $450 is the high end to just do the TC. Ask a few speed shops who they recomend.

I say this slightly in jest, but, since youre in Michigan, and I'm here in Dayton Ohio, you could just drive down here and we could try to get you something like a 350 or 375 install price. It's only a 4hr drive from Detroit.

oh no no, I don't have a shop! I had my TC installed by a local tranny shop that is some family's business. A friend turned me on to them.
I've been to Cedar point too and it's about 3 hrs from Dayton. Maybe 3.5 if ya drive 65.

Dayton is straight down I-75.
