Default Problems with BOV

Guys,

My BOV is releasing big time when it shouldn't be - ie. at 3000rpm it is releasing. It is opening and closing, not just opening and dumping. What could be the problem with it?? Faulty installation???

Details? What kind of BOV? Where is it located? Have you adjusted the tension or what spring is in it? Does it have its own dedicated vacuum/boost source?

Ron,

Excuse my ignorance but I know very little about BOV's. It is an HKS. I don't know whether you need to replace the spring or whether there is something you can just tighten. Yes, it does have it's own vacuum source I believe.

Please help!!!

Thx man,
Jonny

johnny, if it's the newer HKS SSQV, there's no adjustment screw on there.

Did you mean it goes pst pst pst pst pst instead of pssssssssssht?

How many lbs of boost is it when you release? Mine does the same, when i let the throttle go at about 2lbs of boost, it does that. But when there's alot of pressure to release, it'll dump it out all at once.

true true. Are you boosting full throttle and at 3krpm the bov is leaking or are you letting off (even the slightest) on the gas? If you are flooring it and at 3k rpms the bov is cracking open then you have a problem. If you are letting off, the bov is supposed to open. I think the HKS SSQV have a design flaw with the o-rings.

I used to have a greddy bov and it was a POS it leaked like crazy after 1bar of boost.

Guys,

Whenever I am trying to get up to boost levels ( centrifugal sc) at about 3k rpms it starts releasing even though I am at WOT. So MIkal, it is psst pssst psssst pssst

I am hoping it is a vacuum problem cuz I can't afford to do too much more of this!!

Thx guys - any other advice??

hmm, it releases when your foot is still on the gas? Maybe it's a defective bov or it's not seated property.

Where does your boost gauge point to while idling?

Where did you get the BOV??? I just read an artical about immatation parts that are bought online and on ebay. The HKS BOV was one of the featured parts. They tested it and it did not perform well. I have the same BOV with no problems, pushing about 6.5lbs. It could be a fake.

IMO, ditch the HKS BOV... It is an inferior product to the TIAL BOV. I used to have twin BOVs pushing 30psi and those things leaked.... I then switched to a single Tial and all the problems were solved. Tial is hands down the best.

Guys,

I think the problem was an install error!!!I don't think he had the vacuum line connected properly so I was just dumping boost as soon as I made it. Hopefully dyno at the end of the week.

Seat of the pants is telling me that it rocks!! Maybe Joe (Sockfocks) can jump in as he rode with me tonight!!
