Turbocharged GS400 and so it has begun
Let the cat out of the bag now did ya>>>>>>
It's been pretty hard to keep everything under wraps. I'm really happy for you. I know that Sam's spent some pretty sleepless nights about this project. I KNOW......he calls me when it happens.......
They're great guys and Sam's spent some serious man hours working out the puzzle.
BTW, just for everyone watching.....the pics show initial FITMENT welds on all the piping. The welds will be cleaned up and touched before it is sent to be coated. There have been many spot welds, fit it, bring it down, fit somemore, tack a little more, stir and repeat. Most of the piping had to wait until the tranny FINALLY arrived from Cali. as you can see by the pics that the downpipe goes down thru there pretty close.
Good job Morris. Your patience should be soon rewarded.

Nice interesting. Good job for the pioneers.... Make sure u use sometype of coating for the pipes and make sure to stablize the headers in front of the motor for security. I would use different ecu than apexi..... You will have difficulty fitting the electric radiator fans.....
Since space is a problem, u should go with twin. Smaller turbos, smaller DP, small inlet pipes.

Yea Jamie I couldnt hold it any longer, spending all that time with the car last week and seeing it come together was just too much for me. I couldnt hold it any longer. Its even better to be able to share such exciting news with like minded people who truly appreciate the event in the way I do.
Lextreme, you dont know it but youre going to be a big part of this project. Phase 2 is to build an engine with lowered compression and forged internals so that we can run 15psi or more. You dont know how heart broken I was that I was not prepared to participate in the group buy for pistons, rods, bolts and studs. Hopefully there will be a second GB at a more opportune time for me.
The SAFC2 may not be the best choice but I think it will work fine for now at the planned boost levels. I already had it and seeing as cost is a major factor for me, I'm going to have to use it for now. Heck I was successfully using it for 10 pounds of boost with the Super charger so I figure it should handle the 8-10 I'm planning on for now. Maybe with the engine rebuild we may plan for something else but I also need to keep in mind that this is my daily driver and not some 9 second 5500rpm race car. Heck between the cost of this turbo setup, my rebuilt tranny and a new engine for my wifes car, I'm already way past being a responsible adult
The fans are the thin ones, according to the box they only need like 2 inches of clearance, it will be close but it looks like it will fit. If not we will come up with another option, this project is not for the faint at heart, it really requires a lot of knowledge and fabrcation abilliities. I cant begin to imagine how a shade tree mechanic could put something like this together.
P.S. good idea on the bracing, Sam actually built a set of brackets that mounts the piping and flange to the engine block.
So anyone want to donate a blown 1UZFE to the cause? for stage 2?

Morris,
Thanks for the reply. Too bad u didnt have the money on the forged pistons group buy. Perhaps next time. Anyway, if you want to increase the boost, like 15 psi. Apexi is really bad and not much function. Why buy fuel management twice? The computer i am using now can run up to 16 psi. If you going to upgrade someday, u dont have to buy another computer.
U have to brace the headers otherwise with driving vibration, the whole thing will brake and falls right off. If you management to get the fans in, the heat will kill it. The turbo heat shield u have is really bad... sell it and get th kind i have right now. I had yours and the one i have now is 100 x better in heat protection. What size of turbo u r running and what is the A/R?
For oil return. If possible get an oil cooler right before the oil enter the turbo and get 14AN Return line with minimum turns.

Morris, LOOKS good buddy.
A few things...
#1 what fuel injectors are you going to use?
#2 you do know that SC'd boost is different than Turbo boost, right?
#3 After doing all this work, a SAFC2 is a joke, and you know it. Don't skimp now, you'll hate yourself later.
I can't wait to get a ride in it

The attached photo shows the bracing on the piping from the exhaust manifold. There is a brace on each side of the Y pipe even though in this pcture you can only see one. Are you sayin that you would brace it somewhere else as well?

Yea I know its different sort of, what I mean is that I have been told that it is I just havent experienced it so I guess I am unsure.
As for the ECU, read my lips "I am broke"
So I have no choice but to start wtih the SAFC I already own and then move forward with something else as the need arises and my hobby savings fund allows
.And thanks Lex for the offer I may take you up on it at some point. I'm glad to hear that the split second is working for you well especially since I may need it in the future.

I think your going to come up short in the injector area, unless your using an FMU.
I'm not trying to come off as a jack@$$, I'm only trying to help and assist if I can. I've blown a tranny and a motor, after my budget was busted and it sucked big time. And I like you and it's hard to "feel" what a person means over the net.

Enough info to make your head hurt, trust me, I know

There is more to control than just fuel, TIMING, is going to need to be adjusted. THIS IS MY OPINION. I could very easily be wrong, the Lexus v-8 may be able to handle 14 psi on stock timing. Just MORE FYI.Again, I'm not trying to talk down to you or anything, I really want you to make your short term ~450whp goal, and your long term goals.
If there is ANYTHING I can do to help, just ask. I have tools and time, all you gotta do is ask.
And with Sam, Jaime, Dave, this forum, you should be covered times 100. As always, there's no such thing as too much information, just not enough time to figure it all out
Bags you just typed a good bit I have to read it a few times to let it soak in.
But I wanted to let you know you werent coming off as a jerk and I was only kidding around with the read my lips thing, thats what the smileys were about.
And if it werent for folks on this board offering advice I would be lost, that is one of the best aspects of CL and Seloc is the abillity to glean information and knowledge from others. I am still learning about alll this stuff and without the advice and guidance of others, I would still be grinning like a 16 year old school girl that just lost her virginity while listening to the vacume sound on my SRT intake.
Thanks to the guys here and at Seloc and now Lextreme I am moving to the next level.

10 psi from SC and 10 psi from TC would be a different thread. Morris, please feel free to ask me questions. I have done it all. Twin, Supercharged, Single and now i am doing "Project Lextreme" at this time.......
One thing, I noticed I dont think the stock lexus computer will handle 14PSI once i start looking at that I am pretty certain that I will need a different ECU, that also controls timing so I agree here.
I am hopefully going to make my 425-450 with 8-10 PSI, hopefully 8. I am kind of gun shy with breaking something, so I want to stay real conservative on the boost at least untill I can get a lower compression engine together.
I'm gonna have to read up with the VE thing, its new information for me and that may play a role that I hadnt thought of in relation to fuel timing etc. But in my ignorance I am going to have to rely on Sams Experience and knowledge at least for now. That guy has built quite a few race cars and has impressed me. Plus he always makes things right, I never feel like I am left on my own.
