Question Swapping Ring Gear on LSD

I currently have an ATS Carbon LSD which is a clutch type installed in the stock pumkin.

I have a supra 3.76 LSD sitting in my garage which I was planning on installing soon.

Would it be possible to swap the ring gear off the supra pumpkin - thus creating a 3.76 ATS LSD? Not sure I would do it even if possible but the concept interests me. The ATS is smooth and the overall unit is lighter than the gear heavy torsen unit.

I have done a few gear swaps in the past on 4x4 trucks, and normally the ring and pinion gears are swapped, not just the ring gear. Not positive if this is always the case though. The two pumpkins are slightly different, but it looks as if the Supra gear set would fit. Here's a pic of the two side by side.
BTW, have you actually weighed the two units? I did and as I recall, the weight difference was not that much. I think I posted the weights on a past thread.
EDIT: Just found the old thread-stock diff weighs 86 lbs., Supra LSD weighs 93.5 The additional weight is more due to the bigger housing than the stock GS, although the Torsen gears probably do add a few pounds too.
Hope this helps...

I have only weighed the Supra LSD thus far - it hit 100 lbs on the mark on my scale. Probably all the rust and other crap - the unit I have is "pre-owned". When I swap I'll get the weight of the stock unit. Just playing around with ideas. I'm sure I'll end up installing the supra unit as-is, mainly to compare and contrast the difference between the two. Thanks.

Mine was weighed without lube in it, so that accounts for some of the weight difference. You're gonna love the lower gears, the Torsen may take some getting used to.

All this talk about rust & sludge has given me an idea for my next project. I was going to just slap that puppy on the car - it's not like anyone is gonna see it. But looking at FutureGS400's nicely cleaned diffs has inspired me to clean mine off and maybe give it a coat of paint.
