Question 2005 GS 300 any major problems??

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this board. I'm thinking about getting the 2005 GS300. Any major problems? i.e. transmission, engine, etc.....that I should we aware of?

I want to get the 2005 before the 2006 re-design model comes out. I hate to get the first year....especially when Lexus is coming out with a brand new 6-speed tranny. I'm certain they will have a TSB open just like the 2004 RX330 with the new 5-speed tranny.

Thanks,
Mark.

Mark, You should have NO major problems with the new 2005 GS. I think everyone will agree here that the Lexus GS is very well built and doesn't have too many problems. I think the majority of the people here have minor squeeks and rattles. That's about it... Good luck!

Cool

LXOGOOD,

Thanks for the reply!........that's good to hear. I guess the squeaks and rattles is common on all cars.

Does anyone know if there was any changes to the GS300 from 2004 to 2005?

Mark.

Yeah....I would love to get the GS 430 if I had the extra dough $9k....

Is the squeaking and rattling happening at what mileage??

Have you guys had any problems with the auto power windows getting it to stop?

Here is an article I read about.............that states about the power windows.....

Frustrating Power Window Operation
But power window controls are certain to drive you crazy. Windows have a one-touch power-up and power-down feature and trying to stop them from zooming completely up or down with their control buttons often seems impossible. It doesn't seem worth the effort after a few fruitless tries. Shame on Lexus—operating windows should be virtually effortless in the GS.

I read that review on carpoint.com

I have no idea what he's talking about. It may take a little getting used to if you have never had auto up/down windows, but it's certainly no harder than any other car with auto/up down windows all the way around.

I do have plenty of squeeks and rattles, though. Most of them are very minor though and largely due to the quiet interior of the car making rattles that you wouldn't even be able to hear over the road noise in most cars, very audible in our cars. But some rattles are definitely loud and are unacceptable for a car in this price range in my opinion.

I would STRONGLY recommend waiting for the '06 model. Think about it. It's an 8-year newer car design! That by default should be a much better car overall, even if it is a first year model. Think about it in these terms. If you had to buy used, would you rather buy a 1998 GS300, or a 1997 GS300, assuming that for some reason they were both in the same condition, same price, same milage, and everything...just the two different models. Most people would definitely go for the 98 if it cost no more, and most people will even tell you that the 98 will probably end up being the better car.

The 6-speed tranny is a 1.5 year old design now. It did have a recall issue with the LS430, but that has since been fixed on all new production LS430s, as well as recalled and fixed on all of the first 04 LS430s built, so everyone is happy now.

I mean, it's true that it's a first year model, but remember that your car will be under warranty for several years, so if it's fixed in later models, you just go get a loaner car and drive it while they update your part to the new version.

Honestly most of the problems that 1998 GS owners have, are still being experienced by 03 and 04 GS owners... so Lexus really hasn't fixed most of the problems from the first year, mainly because they were all very minor nit-picky type issues (such as rattles) that weren't all that common or at least didn't bother most owners.
