I read the nudderGS400 thread and felt that I may as well go for it. The RMM people did not have one and were not sure when one would get in. I called Carson Toyota and they had one in stock ready to ship and for 300 less than RMM.
Bell Lexus in Phoenix installed it and it is worth it. My '03 430's low end torque has woken up. I don't feel like I'm dragging an anchor when I leave a stop light. The car is perfectly drivable in city traffic. The RPM's are higher but that seems to make acceleration alot cleaner at any speed. Put it in "4" instead of "D" and it really, really goes.
I'm convinced that the original GS was probably what we all know as L-tuned and with the 3.76 LSD. It drives like a Lexus luxury car, but with extreme performance compared to stock.. My theory is that the marketing guys told the engineers to undo some of the performance for the sake of preserving the luxury image. It's just too much of a concidence that all of the parts are so readily available from Toyota.
Since it occasionally gets a little warm in Phoenix during the summer, I'm a little hesitant about a torque converter and a cooler. But what can I expect if I do it? I have stock 17 in wheels, Eibach springs, TRD shocks and TRD sways.

I don't personally have a TC, but from all the threads I have read, installing a PI/TC further improves the launch from a stop. It has a higher stall speed of 2800 rmp compared to the stock 1800 rpm. This just means the engine spools up to 2800 rpm before it moves. Higher rpms = takes off faster from a stop.
It sounds like a no brainer mod for all those more inclined towards performance!

Congrats on getting the Supra LSD - it just makes the car feel (and it is) a WHOLE lot faster.
What can you expect with the PI TC? How about shorter tire life? LOL Actually the LSD will have preserved tire life some which is good.
But the PI TC will improve launches still further, but even better it makes downshifts smoother which makes passing better.
In regards to the TC on the GS430. If you read some past posting almost all the GS430 with TC installed have the engine check light on. This is not the case on GS400 though.

It will slow your car down. Unless you have forced induction or some other power adder (nitrous) you don't really need LSD and your gear ratio on a GS3 is already higher than the Supra TT (3.76 vs 3.9x in a GS3).
Glad I didn't steer you wrong, always a worry when you post your own impressions. Everybody is different!
I still smile when I drive mine everyday.
About the TC, for me, I will pass. Until I hit closer to 200K or so on the odometer and need to do some tranny work, then I probably will change the stall speed. (The previous owner was not informed of the importance of changing the tranny fluid.) If you love the new acceleration, and want another full dose, go for it!

If my car blows up at 200K, it will still have been worth it.
