are u only gettin an intake or are u going for more than just an intake but that is your starting point?

if u just want an intake and an intake alone... go with the SRT HFI www.swiftracing.com

if u plan on gettin a headder, race pipe or anything else... go with any intake and get an afc. if u dont get the afc u will run into CEL's...

Crazeazn,

I'm getting a setup like yours, Have Injen and hyper, Xerd race pipe and Safc on the way. How do you like that setup? Is it very loud? I heard the xerd pipe is loud. What kind of gains do you get? Thanks in advance.

SRT is the way to go. But if you're going for the stealthy direction...I recommend the PLP SFI or the Joe Z intake. I personally have the Joe Z DAFI and a TRD drop-in.

Default intake

First off, the SRT is a good intake but the chip you pay so much for becomes useless as compared to an AFC if you add more mods. So it depends if you just buy the SRT intake for around $600 or if you want to buy an intake, exhaust, header, and then the AFC. It will yield more power to buy the AFC after all the mods and tune that. The SRT is only engineered for the intake and will not maximize any other bolt-ons afterwards. As for the best intake, the newest gen. Injen intakes will work very well from what i've heard, but will cost more, about $250 on JSC Speed . The other route to take is going cheap and buying a decent one ebay for about $50. It is always better to do sh*t right the first time though, so going cheap might make you lose hp, especially if not tuned with the AFC afterwards. I went cheap, and got the BOMZ racing intake, but other fellow members tell me that it doesn't really matter if it's the expensive ones or not. Anyways, good luck!

its pretty nice, at wot you can be heard, idle its not too bad. only problem is the exhaust drone on the highways is pretty annoying but i drive for extended periods of time (4~5 hours) so that may not bother you @ all..

Cool thanks! My Injen/Hyper isn't very loud so hopefully with the xerd it won't get much louder. Damn neighbors called the cops on me for just playing my music a little loud. They are really gonna love this hahah!

Yeah MattsterIS, my IS300 is really loud. I'm running a bomz racing intake (off ebay, $40, not too shabby) with new header, race/y-pipe, straight resonator/b-pipe, and axleback exhaust. I bet mine's alot louder that yours and i still haven't had anyone call the cops on me. Well, maybe they just haven't found me yet... As for the xerd race pipe, my similar megan racing pipe has been sweet--gains in sound and performance due to the better air flow. Just expect to pay someone to pass you on the inspection with the removed cat. Good luck.

Default intake

Spoke with a Lexus mechanic and Jason at JPImportz : either the stock intake with a performance filter or a quality cone air intake that comes with paneling to close off the corner into a box work best. Cold air from the stock intake goes directly into the engine whereas have the cone intake in the open will cause you to take in warm air esp. if you don't use the first airbox piece that pushes air in the engine bay. The bomz one is crap, but oh well, you get what you pay for.
