Default Thinking bout Supra engine in my GS3

So I was surfing the general classifides and came upon a supra engine for sale. Not that I'm going to purchase it, but it got me starting to think.

In the future, I'm either going to get a faster new car, or mod the engine of my gs3.

I don't like the idea of going for a giant turbo because I feel like that will significantly degrade the condition of my engine. I was thinking of buying a J-spec supra engine, 6 spd and all the ecu's and crap and dropping it in my GS3. On e-bay they're are a couple engines going for around 3k-4k.

My question: After I spend 4-5k on the engine and transmission, How much am I going to have to pay someone to do the wiring?

Would it be better to just go decent turbo and forge the internals of the engine or slightly mod the twin turbo supra engine. I'm thinking I want a decent 400~ish HP, a good punishing amount but still easy to drive on the street.

How much will a turbo with forged or non-forged internals wear on my engine?

Thanks in advance guys.

You will be getting in way more deep than you think....this is a huge project with alot of twists to it....turbo your GS3 engine and call it a day....for alot less cash and time than the engine swap.

Take a drive to Austin. Performance Motorsports has a turbo kit for NA 2JZ-GE engine. They have converted numerious NA Supra's and SC3's. Too bad they don't have a kit for my GS4

I know Marken at SRT has/had one. They've done a number of IS300s as well.

My main concern with going with turboing my current engine is how much it will downgrade the condition of the engine..... Plus, I'd love a 6-speed.

Trust me, turbo charging your GS3 engine will not come close to downgrading the car as much as swapping engines would.

Is it possible to add a turbo and get around 400ish horsepower and spend some more on forging and fortyfying the drivetrain to where it would still take a stock like beating from the engine??

If you check with SRT Stage 3 u would be at 400ish at the wheel...with my stage 2 i will be at 310-350 at the wheel..that's good amount of power for me

imho, if i were really to put turbo on the gs3, and push it the kind of hp most of us want, i would probably just spend the money and do the supra tt swap with the 6 speed. first of all that would be so cool and very unique, at the same time that engine is even stronger and even more mod friendly imho

but doing the supra tt engine swap together with the 6 speed isn't cheap AT ALL, if you want a good engine with a good tranny you are looking at close to 6-7k already i believe. and the labor, you REALLY need a good shop to do it before messing up the whole car. the install can be anywhere from 4-6k as well i would say

See that is what I'm talking about. If i were to strap a srt stage 3 it would cost me somewhere around 15-18k. I can buy a J-spec TT off e-bay for 3-4k with 6speed. If install is only 4-6k I would rather have a stronger more mod friendly engine instead of cheating death by running high boost on my stock block. I agree, it would be so cool.

Thanks Dave for the info. I'm with Blue98Gs3 here.....if you add a turbo to the NA engine you will have to run low boost or risk breaking the thing. If you go GTE from the start you can pull over 600 HP reliably out of that engine with no risk of anything.

I am looking at the 2JZ-GTE with auto tranny swap. If my research pans out....I will be doing this mod
