1jz vvti water pump, where to buy?
Hey Everyone,
where have fellow 1JZ VVTI swappers bought the water pump? I can't find any concrete answers and the part listed in the 1JZ parts thread doesn't really come up with any solid vendors on google. The part I am talking about is 16100-49855.
has anyone here figured out if the 2JZ GE VVTI water pump is the same? Which I believe is the same as the regular 2JZ GE water pump as well.
cheers,
Marko

I've been building my own alternative parts reference for 1JZ VVT-i's and indeed that is the correct water pump but it doesn't come up in the USA parts system. I can't confirm anything for you but if you review this page you'll find that at least the 1JZ-GTE VVT-i and 2JZ-GE non-VVT have different water pumps.
Notably, the bypass pipe is at a different angle and there is no provision for cooling the factory CT15B.

The page doesn't compare 2JZ-GE VVT-i pumps, JDM 2JZ-GTE VVT-i pumps or the USDM 2JZ-GTE pumps.

And this thread may or may not help you since it doesn't specifically mention VVT-i engines:

You can use the 2JZ-GTE water pump on a 1JZ apparently, but again, the thread isn't specific about the VVT-i or a JZX100 car.
Edit-- But this one does: http://www.toymods.org.au/forums/tec...-question.html

just wanted to post and confirm that a 2jz-gte water pump from a 97 supra works, you have to take the water pump face off as the back housing casting is slightly different on the 1jz (But that is just the metal casting and actually is less work to just swap the pump face). see pic below
and then you have to get a 2jz water pump pulley (i got the lightweight accessory set from DM for 58$). the water pulley has a different bolt pattern on the 1jz vs the 2jz.
hopefully the next guy who is working on their 1jz will have a solid answer now

Uh, I had a solid answer over 2 years ago and told you so. And I used the entire housing, not just the actual pump itself. It fit right up no problem, so the whole thing is interchangeable. Not just the face. it's a good idea to do the whole pump because then you can change out the o rings on the pipe between the pump and neck and that water pipe gasket.

Just curious, Vrank. If the back castings are slightly different is there any difficulty bolting up any 1JZ cooling pipes, etc to the rear of the MK4 housing or are these rear housing pieces basically using the same hardware between our non-vvt 2JZGTE's and the 1JZ-VVT? I'm thinking g primarily of the large cooling pipe that runs alongside the engine block.
