opinions on 1jz or 1.5jz
hey guys. im a bit stuck on what I should do, I got a sc300 and a 1jzgte singled with a r154 with all mods supporting 800hp. however I got rod knock due to a bad injector on the dyno. now its time for me to decide if I should go back to 1jzgte bottom or 2jzge bottom or 2jzgte bottom, keep in mind I have a friend seling all 3. 1j bottom is 100$ 2jge is $500, 2jgte $600. if I get any of them im still hot tanking it, replacing rod bearings, main bearings, thrust washers. my goals are 700hp on e85 high boost and around 500hp on e85(conservative) which block should I go with ?
here's the parts I would need to get according to my research and not takin shortcuts.... 1.5jz route
2jgte/ge bottom end
hot tank
2jz water pump neck pipe
2jz water pump
2jz oil pump
2jz t-belt
2jzgte oem head gasket
arp head stud kit
2jz idler pully
2jz oil pump o-ring set
arp 1jz flywheel bolts
2jz rear main sea
arp main studs
acl rod bearings
acl main bearings
acl thrust washers
Toyota sealant
Am I missing anything?

If 700 is your goal for everyday, I would assume the 1.5 would be great. According to your parts lists above, compare it to the 1JZ/2JZ swap for dummies on SF or supramania.

I'm doing the same build but full bore and VVTI nothing to it for the regular 1jz/2jz=1.5jz but in my case there is little to no after market support for the 1j vvti head.
FYI if you use the GE block you must use the GE oil pump, if you use the turbo oil pump it bypasses the filtration system.
