Default transmission fluid help

Ive got a 93' Lexus sc300 with an automatic transmission that has about 250k miles. The engine is newer, but the transmission is sluggish. Ive been reading up a lot on tranny flushes vs. drain/fill and I'm deffinatly sure I should go the drain/ fill route, but I'm unsure what kind of tranny fluid to use. I got valvoline max life, but I might take it back and exchange for something different. what does everyone think? what does everyone else use?

Toyota T-IV transmission fluid. Can buy from Toyota or Lexus. It's not expensive either. You can also buy Mobil 3309 which is Toyota T-IV under a different name. I would just go to Toyota or Lexus it's the cheapest place I've found transmission fluid.

This would be great to bring your auto back to life. It's a modification to your valvebody. Should jolt your auto back to life.

Transgo SK-340

TRANSGO PART: SK 340 CLASSIFICATION: SHIFT KIT
FITS: 4 Speed Toyota 340, 341, 343 and Jeep AW4.
FEATURES: Corrects: Rough shifts when cold, soft shifts, lazy kick down. Reduces
TCC Slip/Overheating.

Basically if you have any of those symptoms this would be good to bring your tranny back to life. It's cheap too the kit is only like $70. Worth it over getting your transmission rebuilt or buying a used one.

If you want more performance you can get the Transgo 340-HD2. Which is a more performance oriented version and slightly more expensive kit to modify the the valvebody.

In this thread is a lot of info about the Transgo kit, as well as what you need if you want to do it. I sound like a Transgo sales rep but I just really love my Transgo kit LOL.

Edit: I would return that valvoline Max life. Nothing better than OEM fluid.

Well, IDK. Sometimes if you drain and change the tranny fluid on a 250k tranny with sluggish actions, will usually make the tranny use new fluid, then break. Maybe your transmission is just hanging on by a thread, but than again, it's a Lexus...though, IMO, I wouldn't do it. JMO, you can still do it...

Very true at 250k miles... an A340 tranny can be found for like $300 give or take. $400 for sure. Just slap a new one in and your good to go lol.

If you do the Transgo kit though you can always transfer the modified valvebody(with transgo parts) to your new transmission. Personally I would get an SK340 kit slap it in, if it doesn't revive the tranny to your liking then find a used auto. Then swap your modified valvebody on the new auto. Win Win.
