Alternator..rebuild, replace, upgrade?
Whats goin on CL. So my alternator is dying..lights dim at idle, only puts out ~12.7V, and on top, my battery is dying too..only holding on to 10.6V with the car off. My question for you guys is..should I pull my old alt, clean it and rebuild it if I can find a rebuild kit? Or should I replace it with another 80amp alternator? OR should I replace it with a higher amp alternator? FYI I do plan a stereo build, and turbo build.

I'm in the same boat, found a local shop that can rebuild mine for between 30 and 100 bucks, depending on what is bad. Rather keep an oem myself, since it's basically stock and no swap in future.

My alternator died this past spring. I had a o-ring leak which covered the alt in oil and 1000k+ watt sound system running on it. The stock alt lasted me 7 months in that condition. If I were you I would just get an high output alt since you plan on a sound system.

Well it finally died and left me stranded today at a semi busy intersection in the west valley of phoenix. got a tow back to my place and i'll be installing a 100A alternator i'm getting from Vatozone. The 100A was actually 30 bucks cheaper than the 80 amp
