Default Alternator rebuild/replacement

Has anyone tried rebuilding their alternator on a GS430 using that kit. I may need a new one or have to repair my alternator and would rather rebuild it myself then pay $220 for a new one if it is not too much of a pain removing it and fixing it. I searched and did not find much for the 2nd Gen GS430 on alternators. Not sure why the alternator went bad as I don't put much stress on it, everything is stock, no aftermarket stereo/amps and the car has less then 80K miles. When Autozone checked it the readout said 30 and it is supposed to be putting out 90-100 but I will get it checked somewhere else to make sure before I fix or replace the alternator.

I had a local battery/alternator shop rebuild my original denso alternator this summer for $120. Works like a charm again. I would just look in your local yellow pages and find a local shop.

I just made sure they used my original alternator, because I didn't want them to swap it for some junk piece. GL

What PushinLEX said.

I believe the alternator fails in a fixable way. OEM Denso parts are not cheap so bang for buck have someone you trust rebuild the original.

Not sure now if I need a new alternator now. I took it to 2 different places today and they ran the machine and both said it was ok, the guys did not exactly seem to be very technically inclined so they may possibly have made a mistake somewhere but 2 computers saying it is okay sounds pretty good. One reading was 13.55V and the other print out was 13.06V -0.8A No Load and 13.59V 3.8A Loaded Ripple 17mV. Not sure what exactly some of those numbers are but it said No Problems on the Charging System test as well as no problems with the battery and starter. Drain test said .08A PASS.

The autozone where I took it yesterday after the battery was dead in the morning was insisting it was the alternator when I told them the battery was dead after getting a new one just a few days ago but it turned out the installer messed up and had the lead way too loose, after tightening the lead it started right up, he still ran a alternator test and said the alternator was bad and I needed a new one and said it was only putting out 30A. It sounded a little fishy and like they were trying to push a new alternator the whole time before they even tested it.

I will still watch it and get it tested again this week from somewhere else but I am a little pissed I was lied to if it turns out my alternator is fine. I have never noticed any flickering or dimming of lights when I turn the stereo or AC on and never noticed any issues with the alternator before.
