w58 question before i get my 1j
my friend is telling me that i can use my 93 stock 5spd tranny with the soarer 1j but i have been reading that you need the mk3 supra turbo bellhousing to make it work and i 1jz flywheel and 1jz clutch. Some sites also said it would be a derect fit if its a 95+ sc but not a 93 arent they the same besides the cosmetic differences?
can you use the 1jzflywheel and a 2j clutch?
will the wire harness fit with the w58?
how does the ecu of the soarer effect this setup?
what is a complete list i need for a 1jz and w58?
i have searched but i didnt get a straight forward answer so i joined this site for help
im shooting for a 400hp car
please help
thanks
kevin

i would suggest the 2j flywheel only because usually tranny parts arent that interchangeable .
if the wire harness and ecu are m/t i dont think you should have any problems but if you car is auto or the harness is you will need to bypass
the stock soarer 1j ecu will run your 1j fine however if you going for more hp then you will need to run a management setup (safc, ems ) and also fuel upgrades
there is a sticky thread that has a list of what you will need for ur swap
dropping in the 1j should be no hassle but if you car is obd ii you going to run into wiring problems (ie re-pinning the body plugs ) due to difference
this is coming from my research that i have been doing for my 1.5jz . IMO the w58 on mine hasnt done me wrong since i got the car last year but its been suggested to upgrade to the r154 cause its a bit stronger . so i have the r154 from my dead mk3 with stage 2 clutch which i will be using
any one who wants to correct if im wrong on something chime in . i never said i was spot on about all this

Use the 2j W58 bellhousing, flywheel. and clutch. No MKIII parts needed. If going for 400hp, might want to look into the R154 instead. W58 will get you by though, just don't be too harsh on it.
