2jz 6spd or 1jz r154
first off does anyone recommend an engine importer that imports both of the mentioned engines?
2jz 6spd from the supra and the 1jz r154 for the soarer
as far as price differences, i think for the 2jz it was $5500-6000 and the 1jz i'm not sure i haven't found it with the soarer r154 trans. but i'm thinking around $3500?
i'm wanting to do a swap on my 98 sc400. any recommendation also on which one is easier to swap (or about the same)?
thanks for any feedbacks

You have listed 2 platforms that are both very good but very different
I personally would think that the 2jz(gte) with the 6 speed is far better interms of performance and every other aspect.
Pretty much comes down to the budget you are working with. I would guess a 1jz with a r154 would cost almost half of what a 2jz with a 6 speed would cost..
r154 transmissions are everywhere (Supra Mk3) and 1jz would be easier and cheaper to find and buy than a 2jz.
So there you go. What do you want and the budget you have to work with.
I personally would just supercharge the v8 and focus on the drivetrain such as LSD Transmission upgrade etc.....

Man, where are you guys finding these Soarer/R154 swaps? All I could find for months on end was Chaser or Supra swaps.
At any rate, I would just go 2JZ/V160 if I had it to do again. The swaps will be pretty much the same, except for having to do more wiring on the 2JZ swap.

I would highly recommend you don't do this swap.
1st Have you looked into the OBD-II emissions smog issues?
2nd your 98 400 is valuable and most people would want to buy it. Don't ruin it with a swap.
3rd your car has a return less fuel system so you'll need to buy an older gas tank or modified your current one.
4th the 98-00 400 vvt-i uses an igniter less distributorless ignition system. You might have issues getting the tach to work properly.
The only pro is your differential's 3.27 ratio which is actually good for a 6spd.

thanks for the heads up!
the only down side i see to it, is the $$$ and also, the wiring/electronics.
so maybe if i get the 2jz VVTi 6spd it will plug in better with my 98 sc400.
emissions, i can get it with a place that does not need smog or look for a hook up if need be
i dont really plan on selling it, since it's down, might as well rebuild it better stronger and faster the way i want to!

Even the 2jzgte vvti will not be PNP you will have to get the wiring done. The only swap that will be pnp is the engine that's already in that car.
VVti ot non VVTi they both require the same wiring to work on the 98 SC400.
Even if you had a 98 SC300 it will not plug up better it's the same stuff.
Gl with whatever you decide to do.

Honestly, it depends on how much power you're planning on making in the future.
If you're only going to want around 350hp, per se, the 1JZ/R154 will easily do that for MUCH less money. This would be perfect for a daily driver because I heard that 1JZ's have one of the smoothest powerbands known to the automotive world. On the other hand, if you're shooting for 500+hp, you would want the bulletproof V160 and the extra displacement from the 2J. Then of course... there is also the 2JZ-GTE vs. NA-T debate, but I'll save that for another day.
If money isn't an issue, I'd go with the 2JZ/6spd. You'll have a lot more potential in the end although the 1JZ is certainly not a slacker by any means.
