95 SC400 battery drains...where is the alarm ecu?
Hey, guys. Got a 1995 SC400 and the battery goes dead when shut off. I'm not sure what it is yet (I'm gonna start pulling fuses when it starts to warm up outside), but I'm thinking it is the alarm. I bought the car wrecked in the front and whenever the battery is charged, the alarm goes off randomly. I'm figuring a sensor or something is bad, but I wanna unplug the alarm ecu and test the battery to see if that's causing the drain. Thanks.

The alarm ecu is over your steering column, behind the gauge cluster. You'll need to remove everything under your steering column and you'll see it deep in the dashboard where your pedals start up on top.
Many people complaining about their battery being drained ,including me,lol

Brass solenoid on steering column not disengaging
Thanks for the info, Lexman. I just saw this thread...I forgot I wrote it! Luckily, I have the speedometer cluster out as I was replacing some lights in it.
One thing I notice is that there's a brass solenoid attached to the steering lock shaft. Basically, while engaged, the solenoid will not let the key out of the ignition. Actually, it won't even let you get to the 'off' position. It won't go any further than the acc.
For the solenoid to release, you have to unplug the battery...or unscrew the solenoid. This may or may not be related to the security ecu. However...
This solenoid gets REALLY hot while the car is running. I actually borrowed a duplicate wiring harness/solenoid from a Lexus parts vendor. It does the exact same thing with either wiring harness.
I just find it interesting that the solenoid engages and generates lots of heat. Like after 15 minutes, it can nearly burn to the touch hot. TBC...

Hmm so you are saying that this solenoid is causing the battery to drain? Does it get hot when you turn the car off?
Man i would love to bypass this stupid alarm, but all the important wires are controlled by this alarm ecu.
I'm looking into the wiring scematics to see if i can actualy bypass the door locks, and the starter relay wiring. I'm trying to see if anything else will affect drivability like maybe the EFI wiring goes through this alarm ecu too.
