Default Belt or Chain

I am looking at a '96 SC300.

I went in and checked it out and mentioned that I would need to dothe timing belt soon and would he be able to drop teh price a little. Dealer says it has a chain no need to replace it so he is not budging on the price. 71k miles and $8k

In my mind I'm thinking it has a belt but I was knocked off gaurd a little. I walked away not sure about belt or chain.

I did a search here and am fairly certain it has a belt and not a chain. Just a one word anser will do on this one. Am I wrong or is he wrong?

it is a belt and even a chain needs to be replaced...go back and see if he changed his mind. Times are tough so he might budge.

I'm sitting on it this weekend. He has had it for weeks. New car deals make it had to move vehicles this old IMO.

He says he can come down a little on the price. I have cash in hand and need to make a move before the 13th of April. It is in good condition but I was going to offer 5k out the door and see what happens.

It's a 90K belt so that car's not due for one for another 20K anyway, but even so the dealer is a moron. Make him an offer, never know - he might be sick of having the car around and just get rid of it.

even if it is a 90K belt, dealer recommends changing it at 70k as well as a water pump.

take off your front timing gear cover (4 allen head bolts), drive to the dealer and shove his head under the hood to let him see for himself.

Even though it only has 71k miles, the belt is over 10yrs old. I'd suggest replacing it asap.
