Default Missing transmission shifter plate? Need Help

I have no idea what its called, but I have a 1995 W58 transmission. It had no shifter whatsoever. I bought a short shifter for it and then to just realize I am missing a piece to hold the shifter.

I am assuming its some sort of plate that was on the stock shifter. Question is... where can I even get one? What is it called so I can ask a dealer or something.

Can I machine one? Does anyone have any pics of it?

Do you have the plastic basket that goes around the ball section of the shifter too?

I'll take a picture for you when I get home of a stock shifter setup.

The 95+ Soarer R154 and W58 shifters are setup just like that pic you posted.

Except in that pic, the shifter is missing the 'collar & orings' in the small end circle. If you look at your shortshifter, it should have a solid collar in the end. You also should have a small round flat rubber gasket with a square cutout of the center, and that sits at the bottom of that housing.

Here's my late model Soarer R154 shifter...it's just like your late model W58 shifter

The metal piece does slide off the ball section using some force, and I had to slit the rubber boot slightly to get it off and on the shifters.

This is interesting. That first pic you have 2 aluminum pieces. My shortshifter came with those pieces, but my shortshifter didn't look like the one in that pic. It had the thick piece that doesnt come off similar to the stock shifters. So, I couldn't figure out how to get that small circle ring to fit, so I put it at the very bottom, which is wrong. It should go up top like I had thought, but with my shifter, there's no way to do that!

The shifter you posted is thin all the way to the top of the shaft so you canslide that circular aluminum piece right on top where it should go...

That is strange...

sorry, thats not my shifter. This is mine.

Thats the TRD shifter, a little different.

As far as I can see now, what I need is in this order.

rubber circle gasket with square hole > circle aluminum (came with the SS), plastic basket > shifter with the sqaure piece on top of tranny > then the plate.

That's how I hooked mine up, and it works. What I noticed is that if you don't put the circular aluminum piece at the bottom, the shifter will work, but you can pull it up a bit after everything is installed.

The shortshifter should come with install instructions, but it doesn't.

I have noticed that my 95+ R154 is a little hard to shift with the W58 shortshifter installed.

It shifted fine when I had it installed on the 95+ W58 though
