Default Heat, Heat, and more Heat

Ok, so I have a 1JZ with IC, BOV, stock fan (no shroud), and im running 15psi at around 298whp. My question to all of you performance junkies is why is it that I am running 210-215 degrees even when Im barely pushing it? (Im even running Royal Purple coolant)

I know more than a few guys on here who run single on top of their 1JZs with the stock fan...I got dual electric 12" fans to install directly on the radiator but everyday that passes I think that was a bad investment.

Should I install the fans or return them? Think a radiator flush would do the trick?

If this is a stupid question, dont respond and I'll do more independent research, thanks.

Put the shroud back on.. It actually makes a huge difference.

I have a 1J with similar mods. My car is running 200-205 all the time once it warm. I see no variation if im beating on it or im just sitting there. I run toyota coolant with water weter. I actually didnt see a temp drop with the waterweter.

There is nothing wrong with 215 degrees. Its seems alittle high but not by much. Does the temp go up when you beat on it?? Like I said once the car is warm my never moves. Get that shroud on and it should deff drop down a bit

Personally I am not a fan ( no pun intended ) of electric fans. I know a handful of people who switch from dual electric fans back to a stock fan and shroud. I think the shroud is deff. key for cooling

yeah I agree, the fan shroud is what keeps the air concentrated in a spiral. Without the shroud air gets sucked in, but isn't concentrated and is sent everywhere else.

What thermostat do you have installed? Not sure what 1jz's come with factory? But keep in mind also that if you swap out to to cool of a thermostat your car won't run correctly. If it's an auto it won't shift properly either.

Shroud is huge get one of those for sure. Also the plastic air dam under your bumper directs alot of air up into the radiator. Make sure thats installed as well.

Rick, mine always seem to run a little hotter than normal, never gave me any problems, I had the stock shroud on mine. I remember reading a post from another member about the 1jz's running a little hotter than normal. I'll give you a call.

Its the shroud, thats one of the first things you learn to diagnose cooling problems in auto tech. You always check for ubstruction and to see that the funneling device is installed first...

I've stuck with the stock fan and shroud, and even in TX with a 74mm turbo, temps don't get above 190F. However, my Fluidyne dumps a bunch of heat into the engine bay (whole other issue).

Peter Blach was the one who convinced me to stick with the stock fan. He had electrics and hated them.

yeah well the fluidyne might be the dependent variable there, I just talked to my guy at the local performance shop and he said to get 2 10" fans on the front and a 15" on the back...so he's pretty much just trying to get me to buy ridiculous **** I dont need...aight, thanks.

The thing that I would hate about the electrics is that i would most likely want to set up a switch instead of having them come on when I start the car, and I dont want the inside of my car looking like a cockpit (hehehe), so I might just throw the 2 12"s i have now on ebay or something. I ordered a fan shroud from Aliga so that should make a nice difference.

I'm also in the process of doing this radiator flush, easy job but finding free time away from my two pit bulls, homework, work, and all this scattered *** here in wilmington is difficult.
