I think I may need a new thermostat. Yesterday my cars temp gauge was fluctuating from normal heat after warm to a few bars above. Is this the fan coming on when the car engine temp drops? How is our 400 fan controlled (I dont really understand how our fan works)?

Has anyone put a high performance thermostat in? Will Pepboys or Discount carry thermostats or does only Lexus have them?

One last question, the thermostat is where the little black box is to the left of the upper radiator hose near the water pump right? (if I change the thermostat I may drain the radiator while im at it and put steel braided hoses in)

 

The thermostat will usually make your car overheat, have you had your radiator power flushed? Do that as well, you might have a blockage somewhere
