Default Passing emissions with 1jz

Im still researching on the 1jz and the pros and cons and I came across the cons of not passing emissions? But almost everyone has no cat that has the 1jz. Does anyone have a cat (stock or hi flow) and is able to pass emissions that is NOT in california?

ps. my car is not ny state registered either - georgia

The 1JZ will fail in the area of NOx, due to the lack of an EGR system. Both HC and CO emissions will pass. If you search, there are people who've had their stock 1JZ tested and the posts show exact results.

Ok.... not good. What would be needed to pass the NOx? Basically what does our car have that the 1jz doesnt have and can it be put into the 1jz from the 2jzge/gte

1JZGTE does not have EGR, exhaust gas recirculation. Its not built into the head, exhaust manifolds, intake manifold, etc. Can not be swapped. The motor was never designed to pass US emission laws.

going for a long shot here.... any way to mix the 1jz head and the 2jz head? meaning use the stock 2jz and use 1jz turbos, piping, 2jzgte headers ect ect....that might be pointless tho

Pointless.

When i lived in maine to make our race cars pass inspection for street use, there is always a sneaky shop around town willing to make a few bucks in trade for a sticker.

Glad I live in a state where I don't have to worry about emissions, yet.

I Passed emissions once with a 1989 Starion ESir, Big turbo 4'5" down pipe, to 4" out the back of the car, no cats, no mufflers...I basically ran primo gas, ran the hell out of it so it was real hot and it passed, I think the fact that it was so hot, burned everything up!!

Or that mitsu had one clean enviro friendly motor!!!
