Default 1JZGTE stuff

Ok before I get into this thing I have a few general question..
In comp. to the 2JZGTE how strong is the 1JZ?
I know the 2JZ has strong internals (cap screws on the rods, strong pistons, crank, etc..)
but what about the 1JZ ..
Stock turbos out of the equation how much boost will the 1JZ (in a good tune) handle?

on stock turbos for the 1JZ, i read that it can only go up to 12-14 psi for a little while and then itll blow since the it has ceramic blades. all this was from the top of my head so sorry if i got any info wrong.

The 1jz is still a nice engine and it's too bad it's overshadowed b the higher displacement 2jz. If the 2jz was never released 3 years after the 1jz was introduced in Japan, we might not be having this discussion, but it happened so the aftermarket and following on the 2jz is alot better. I think we owe this to a little saying that I think every car person knows, "There is no replacement for cubic inches."

Ive seen a few 1jzs exceed 6-700 hp on stock internals out in Japan and Austrailia. Very Strong Motor. If you want more power there are aftermarket internals you can buy or go 1.5jz route and get 2jz bottom end. Diffs between the 2 are displacement and thats about. Due to stroke the 1jz revs higher. Not to mention 1jz sound awesome.

Also as far as turbos go like stated above due to the ceramic wheels they dont like to be boosted above 1BAR. Unless you have a US spec 2jz you will run into the same problems with other Jspec 2jzs. With boltons and stock turbos people have reached around 350rwhp. And of course with single or twin upgrades you will have ofcourse monster gains as with the 2jz.

1JZ-
2.5L
parallel ct12a turbo's
Redline at about 7,250rpm
full boost at about 3k
380cc injectors
Very good flowing head vs. 2JZ

2JZ-
3.0
sequential turbo set-up
redline at about 6,800
internals to hold about 980rwhp
1 degree more camshaft rotation vs. 1JZ
440cc injectors (i think)

Yea everyone would say the 2jz is better, but thats just because of the accessibility of the engine. I believe that if there were as many 1JZ's in the states as the 2JZ they will be really close in hp comparison. The highest hp i've seen on a 1jz is about 750 but I havent really seen anyone push it as much as the 2jz. I guess ill be the first to try that before I swap to the 2jz block

True, but there are other related factors to why the ceramic wheels can be damaged (and eventually kill the turbo). Small carbon particles hitting the blades (mind you, the wheel's in excess of 100000rpm) can screw it up, as what happened to mine (I'm not running any more boost than what an exhaust and free'd up intake would achieve... around 11psi).

Just some additional info

Oh and yes the 1JZ is a strong motor, finding it's way into many applications (especially in Thailand, for some reason they shoehorn the 1JZ into anything they can lol... I've seen it bolted into a Volvo, to an Opel Omega wagon heheheh). There's a Soarer I know of with stock internals (just bolt-on mods) pushing 280Kw atw, another one pushing 327Kw at the wheels (from memory, he had HKS cams plus cam gears and a metal head gasket).

I ran my stock turbos at 1.2 bar (17.5psi) for almost 1 year with no problems, I did have some supporting mods though... (custom dumps, single exhaust,440cc inject,FCon-S/EVC 5)

I now run an HKSGT3040 Single turbo which is producing about 480bph... Only changes made was the addition of 650cc injectors and HKS camshafts....

Car goes and sounds great.

Yeah so do I. Your a little ahead of me. Yours runs mine doesnt. Just waiting on gaskets and headstuds before I drive it around. Yeah its dead around here. I live in Sparta but usually hang out in Hackettstown. (northwest Jersey) Not far at all from Allentown really.. Big single conversion is coming nicley thanks to new job im starting at. MakingPower is no issue. Tranny is the issue of holding it.
