Default 1992 SC300 5spd runs great at startup, HESITATION once warmed up..

My 92 5spd started giving me trouble this week. On cold starts it runs perfect for about 5 minutes, at which point the car begins to stutter and hesitate all through out the rpms. It also sounds like a Subaru flat-4 at idle. It drives like it has bad gas or a fouled spark plug but I dont believe its either of those since it runs perfect when its cold.

I havent really had time to look at it yet, but my first thoughts were to check the MAF, igniter, and coil. I just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced similiar problems as far as running fine when cold but struggling when warm.

Thanks a ton in advance.

If you haven't done the 90k service yet, i recommend you do so...check your spark plugs too.

The timing belt, water pump, tensioner, alternator, spark plugs, and seafoam were all done this summer. I reset the ECU last night, nothing. This isn't just a little hiccup in power, now the car dies after a few minutes of driving.

Tonight, I replaced the fuel pump, MAF, coil, and igniter. Nothing. It still does the exact same thing. Runs great when cold for about 5 minutes then starts sputtering and wanting to die. Any chance its the fuel filter? What else could it be?

I'm in the same boat as you ef9...except when I turn my car back on from randomly stalling I blow rich fuel smelling smoke. While I am planning to do the 1j swap its still killing me now! I've gone as far as to change the fuel computer, spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap and rotor, TPS sensor, and MAF, but it is still not fixed. The car still mis-fires so i'm thinking either leaky injector, fuel filter, o2 sensor, or idle sensor. Been reading up alittle on the site i think i might have to check my cats also!

If anyone knows anything about this please post... anything would help in my opinion!

Default Here is some help!!!

So I finally gave in and went to a certified mechanic to try and get my problem fixed. It took him a day or so to figure it out but with taking a good look at everything it came down to being a sticky FPR that I had to replace from factory. Even though the piece was $125, I got my piece of mind and smoke free drive back, plus I don't suffer 150 miles per tank anymore. So hopefully this post will help someone or you can atleast chalk it up as another thing on the why does my lexus smoke and eat gas list!!!!
