Car won't start, loud ticking noise under hood
So, I was getting ready to leave for the gym today, went to start my car, and no go. I get this loud, fast paced ticking noise from under the hood. The battery seems fine as everything that lights up looked normal. Don't know if its related, but it probably is: my stereo started popping fuses a couple months ago if I cranked it. Not just breaking them-they would blow out through the side. Then, about a week ago, my stereo speakers cut out with the radio still activated, and I got this horrible sulfur smell. Was going to take it to an electrical shop soon, but it looks like it has become just a bit more urgent.
Suggestions on what to look for? Please? I hate being without my baby for ANY length of time....

sounds like a starter, if it clicks when you turn the key and it doesn't turn over, thats my guess. search the symptoms of a bad starter and see what you find.

In my experience, fast clicking was due to a low battery. If it's a bad starter, theres no clicking, the car just wont turn over and just makes faint low buzzing sound.

You definitely have some electrical issues. It sounds like you have a short somewhere and it drained the battery down. Most of the time when you get the fast ticking but no turnover it's because the battery is too low to turn the engine over. Try and jump start it and bring it into an electrical shop to find the issue. Good luck.

Clicking...
I had the same problem as I too was getting the clicking when I tried to start.
It was intermittent and and eninge seemed to be straining to turn over when it finally did.
In my case, it was a bad connection to the negative battery terminal. The actual clamp was not tight enough.

You guys are great, honestly. Checked the battery and a 12 V is putting out 10.44 V...probably the problem. Stereo's probably a different issue, though, eh?

i've bn having this problem for about 2 weeks now and luckily, it didnt happen during the meet at pathfinder park.........hehhe.....
well, im using the yellow optima battery and i've had it for about 4 yrs now.........u guys think it's time to change it? after the meet, i went straight to carson toyota and purchased the contact points for the starter just in case it's a starter problem and eventually save me $$$ fr buying a new one.
