Unhappy Starts fine one day, other days it's dead - very random

About 2 months ago, i got stuck at work because after numerous attempts at starting the car, i would only get "click". I picked up a new battery, turned the car and the car started - great!

About 1 week later, i turned the key, and click. Turned again and the car started

For about 3 weeks after that, the car would start on the first key turn
Last week, all week, back to not starting again. One day it was over 20 clicks before it started. It was pretty bad. During all this mess, once in a while when the car would start, i would hear some crazy noise and smell electrical under the hood. I couldnt pin point where the noise was coming from. The noise would go away after i rev the car a few times

So far this week, the car has started on the first key turn everytime, but the dead time is around the corner

suggestions?

What kind of car is it? SC300 or SC400? Is it lowered pretty low? You need to give details of your car so people can help you, we cant assume these things. Your starter might be going bad, the fuel pump ecu might need to be replaced or jumped or if you car is lowered then the driver side harness might be ate up and needs to be fixed and relocated.

sounds like your starter is bad it has a magnetic field housing around it and when it gets toasted sometime it will work other times it wont.

I would first check battery connection make sure they are tight and battery is good. Next would be you got a bad starter solenoid.
