Exclamation Tranny shudder?

Iv'e noticed the last few weeks that my entire seems to shake slightly and shortly while at about 35-40 mph and my car is cruising in 4th gear, as i depress the pedal slowly, the car finally decides to downshift to 3rd, and it sounds and feels as if its on the rumble-strip of a highway for about 0.3-0.5 second.

At first i dismissed this as road imperfections, but Ive realized it only happens at that speed, and when i gradually shift from 4th to 3rd.

If im at 40 and i push the pedal down, so i downshift abruptly, it does not happen.

Does anyone know anything about this? Tranny mount worn through possibly?

Trans fluid was checked a few months ago and reported to be "good, not RED red, but still good"

What ATF are you running? Apparently Toyota Type-IV ATF is the only one to use in V8 automatics.

My tranny fluid was changed at 60,000 miles, I believe they used toyota type 4 or equivalent.

burned fluid. ~40 mph is lockup. you're supposed to change the T-IV ATF in the SC400 every 15,000 miles. I had that exact same thing a few years ago w/ my SC400 -- burned ATF

Change it out now before it gets worse bro.

I thought T4 tranny fluid was good for a real long time, ive heard even 60K?

I have the same problem, I had the trans power flushed by a local Lexus dealership. This did help somewhat but did not completely alleviate the problem. The flush is a good idea but it may not solve your problem entirely.

let it go too long and your torque converter could be shot... try a second power flush down the road, may be a cheaper fix.

Most have found that the problem rarely gets worse. But if the the TC goes, so be it, I'll replace it with a Dragon TC. The dealer charge is $180 on a flush - two more of those and I could've had a new TC.

The flush was done yesterday and the car feels fine. There is no skipping when downshifting at 40 mph like there used to be. Anyone recommend getting yet another flush done in a few months? It doesnt feel like anythings wrong now.
