Can anyone out there living in Orange County California, recommend a good, HONEST mechanic to work on my 1992 SC400. I live in Laguna Hills and a shop within a 5 mile radius would be within reason.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

If you don't mind the drive outside of a 5 mile radius, I highly recommend these guys:

Thanks. A bit too far. I have a guy in Costa Mesa, but I can't get there during the week and I don't really want to sit and wait for my car on the weekend.

Thanks anyway.

Once again, thanks, but it's too far. If I still worked off Beach Blvd. it would make sense, but I work near the Irvine Spectrum.

I've got the guy for you:

Saddleback Automotive
375 Bristol St
Costa Mesa, CA 92626
(714) 662-3838

They are in the Autoplex center (by Jiffylube) on Bristol. I have used these guys for 10 years. They are extremely honest. The owner is Andrew Preston (British guy), he is very personable and will walk you through and show you anything that needs to be done. They are reasonably priced. Tell Andrew that Ryan sent you (I have a white SC400), and he'll take care of you. Everyone I have ever referred keeps going back!

Ryan,

Thanks. Guess what, I too have a white SC400 (Pearl) and Saddleback has been taking care of my cars for the past 6 years. They ARE great. Andrew is the best. I used to work within a couple of miles of their location, so it was convenient to leave my car there during the week. That is no longer true, and even though Andrew is a great guy, I don't think I can ask him to drive me from Costa Mesa, to the Irvine Spectrum. Yes they are honest.

You know what? You may have convinced me to just bring it in on a Saturday and bring a good book to read while I wait.

Hey Rich,

That is funny - good help really is hard to find. He usually has a beater or two sitting around that he owns, just ask him ahead of time if you can use one of his beater cars - that might solve your problem. BTW - I am in a similar situation, I used to work in Newport Beach and just changed jobs where my work is in Irvine by the Spectrum (2 blocks from my house). I will still go out of my way to give my business to them! I usually just take it over lunch and eat at the sub place if they are doing basic stuff. Good luck to you!

Ryan,

I work over on Technology, right off the 5. I used to work in Tustin, and there is a Saddleback Automotive locted on Tustin Ave. I used to go to them. They are as honest as Andrew and his crew. I had a Probe GT that got flooded in the storm of '97. Was over at a freinds in Costa Mesa, was backing out of her driveway and had no brakes, no power steering, nothing. Called the guys in Tustin and they vouched for Andrew. Had the car towed there. He tore apart the entire steering system and couldn't find the problem. Didn't charge me for the work, just the tow. Turned out the computers got fried by the water. I've been going to him since.
