Got to see the NX in person and took some trunk measurements. Also displayed in black are the RX's numbers.

All in all, the NX's trunk is roomy.

Thanks for posting. I'm a golfer and the ability to store a cart bag horizontally is imperative. Your dimensions show that it is possible as this photo depicts. You cannot do this in an MKC.

 

Lots, but quite honestly, nothing more than the hundreds of reviews we've seen and read already.

In short:
- Quality/fit/finish impressive. Lots of soft touch and where it was hard it was very solid like around the HVAC controls, and lower dash/lower door panels (I touch everything ) - no squeaks or motion. Overall, a 3/4 notch above the IS and a 1/4 notch above the RX

- Interior space as expected close to the RX, but where it shows it's smaller is in front and rear seat/shoulder width as well as less headroom.

- Rear seat ingress is a little tight. I'm not tall 5'9" and I barely cleared the sloping rear door when getting in the back seat in a "normal" fashion. But for comparison, my IS is much worse in this regard where I must crouch my head down to avoid banging my head, while the RX provides full clearance where I don't even think about hitting my head.The NX ingress is a "caution". The IS is "you better or else". The RX is "all clear".

- Rear seating is comfortable thanks to the theater seating - excellent thigh support (better than the lower bench RX). The rear is good for two adults and a child in the middle or three small/thin build adults comfortably. We actually tested this thanks to 200 people at the event!

- Front seating is IS-like cockpit style with the console/tunnel close by though slightly "less confining". Driving position/view outward/steering position felt closer to the IS than the RX. Seats are (as expected), the same IS F-Sport seats though this particular model had them covered in leather (Japan).Front ingress/egress comfortable, about 1 inch or so lower than the RX (I should have measured it )

- Glass is not lamisafe on the sides unfortunately. Only the windshield is so one can expect the NVH to be similar to the IS (not bad) but probably not as quiet as the RX which has front/side triple layer lamisafe glass. I posted pics in the NX Event thread here.

- In short, owning both RX and IS, the NX looked and felt like the offspring of the marriage of the IS and RX. - Probably no better way to put it.


I took a look but because it was the Japanese pre-production model without the spare tire, it had a fairly large cavity that will not exist here.


Yeah I believe it was yourself and/or another member who was wondering about measurements in another post, hence why it motivated me to take them.

On that note, I'm still stumped at Lexus' official 17.7 cu ft. Now I'm 100% convinced that value represents the volume beneath the tonneau cover. Seeing that I own the RX, well, I can reliably measure this too and compare with a solid perspective. Short of filling water in the cargo on my RX and the NX to measure the exact volume, doing some math on the dimensions I took (including the side cavities) gives an approximate value. In short, the NX is 79% of the RX's cargo (behind the seats).

79% of the RX's 40 cu ft = 31.6 cu ft which seems very reasonable and realistic. A RAV4 is 38 cu ft as its floor to ceiling is taller and rear glass more upright. A final perspective which totally dismisses the NX's stated 17.7 cu ft of total volume: combine the hard measurements with some common sense and there is no way nearly two and a half NX cargo areas make up one RX's.

 

Center console is a little small - about the same overall volume as the IS' (L-shaped design) and notably smaller than the RX's, especially when you remove the "mid-platform" in the RX, it becomes over a foot deep!

On the NX, the console can fit about 10 CDs or so (cases) vertically. Pic is a little dark, but the depth is about 5.5 inches when you factor in the charging tray closed down. If no charging, about 6.5 inches.

 

I laughed the other day when I read how Yaris has something like 15.5cu ft...NX easily has the double of that, as long as you are measuring by same standard... which actually is what Euro measurements show, since NX is quoted pretty high there.

Probably attempt by Lexus to limit influence on RX sales.

Of course, journos are taking the bait... most of the USA ones mentioned how trunk is tiny, while all of Euro ones mentioned how trunk is huge... i just find that hilarious.

True! Good observation and point. I just hope uninformed shoppers don't dismiss the NX before even seeing it in person if cargo is their number 1 priority.

Great - if you can afford to lose out essentially 2-3 inches across each of the the three dimensions (L, W, H), the NX is for you!

 

This statement might be a bit mis-leading as this makes it sound like it is SOOOO much tinier than the RX. Apparently, Golf bags can still be stored horizontally across in the rear so it can't be THAT much smaller than the RX.

 

^^^I'm highlighting the fact that the cargo area is only a couple inches shy of the RX across the three dimensions which means the cargo is big, unlike what's written on paper.

 

There has been some discussion on pricing in this and other threads. While I don't know the price I can offer some facts that may help determine what it may be in the USA. I visited the LexusUSA and Edmunds websites for package info.

My guess is the Base 200T will be between $34,995 and $36,995 with little or no features. Then it will be like the IS with 4-5 packages with the 1st a little over $1000 offering some items that 75% of the buyers will want (ie. memory seats, backup camera, etc....) I think the vehicle will top out fully loaded with AWD and F Sport around $45,000.

Base has LED headlights, smart entry, nuluxe (including dash), 10-way power seats, 4.2" display in dash, 7" multimedia screen, backup camera, etc.

Only thing missing is US base and options pricing... around the world and in Canada, everything is known.

 

I'm thinking (hoping) 30-32k Base, 37k puts it too close to the RX only three grand more for the big brother model....

 

Since the RC pricing is out now both in USA and Canada, only a matter of days before the NX pricing is out.
