Question mudguards

Will mudguards keep the NX's rear cleaner? The hatch area easily gets dirty when it rains, and it's been raining a lot! The grime even obscures the rearview camera.

Other suggestions are welcome.

I've owned a pile of SUV's and the hatch area always gets a lot of 'back splash' when driving on wet roads. I always get mudflaps though to protect the bottom rear panels from getting hit with road debris.

The mudflaps on the new NX have been next to useless unfortunately.

That's what I was afraid of - It's a function of the vehicle's shape. Only way to avoid the problem is a tear-drop.

Unfortunately, the aerodynamics of an SUV cause air flow to carry dirt, debris, and water up onto the tailgate. I've had at least a half dozen SUVs, and that has been the case with all of them.

The vacuum that is caused behind a box-shaped SUV is what ends up causing dust, dirt, and water to be drawn up to the tailgate along with air to fill that vacuum.

Mud guards are not going to do anything to stop that from happening.

I don't have the NX yet but I've looked through parts of the manual and I seem to recall there is a washer for the rear view camera. Not sure when/how the washer activates--if my memory is correct about a washer.

I think mud flaps are good for vehicle where the bottom of the rear panel is higher then the center of the rear wheels (axle). It's the responsible thing to do. I despise trucks without mud flaps. No common courtesy . . . just kicking up road debris into people behind them.

Helps explain a lot of windshield nicks, and worse.

Interesting. Next time I hear debris from a truck in front of me hitting my car, I should pay attention to whether it has mudflaps. I didn't know that the lack of those is what allows stuff to be kicked up. I used to think the truck had been on some kind of dirt road because of which it picked up a bunch of stuff. Learn something new everyday.

Mudflaps (or lack of) don't explain all the ways vehicles (not just trucks) can kick up road debris that can hit windshields and body panels. If there are small stones, etc. on the road a tire can kick it out to the side which can then ding passing vehicles.

I saw the NX mudflaps on a car in the NX Brochure. They looked good and also appeared they'd be relatively functional. I will definitely add them--if--I ever have an NX!
