Anyone come from an RX to a NX? Is the NX that much smaller?

When my 2020 RX was stolen December 2022, I couldn't find an RX (new or used) to get into. Finding an NX at that time was tough too, but I'm glad I did it. Yes, the NX is smaller than the RX. However this generation is about the same size as the original RX. When I was shopping, the model to model price comparison was also a factor. At the time the difference was $9000.00. Yes there are slight package differences, but that was a bit much to swallow. Almost 3 years in and we don't regret it. It's just the Wife and it works well for us.

The interior seating area I have no problems with, space if still pretty good IMO. I actually like the NX seating a bit better than my RX. I've only had 5 passengers in my NX a couple times for short trips, we managed decently. I do miss the trunk space though at times. The NX ride is much firmer though, there are bumpy road days I miss my RX.

The RX vs NX will always be subjective. I have both and they are two totally different vehicles. The RX is more LUX and has a better "quieter" ride. Hence the $10k price difference. The NX has a stiffer, noisier more nimble ride. The NX is slightly smaller on the inside. I like them both. The RX is more comfortable on long rides. The NX is more fun to drive around town. You can't go wrong with either one...

Current NX is about the same size of a gen1 RX. Always had RX and/GX and sometimes I should have purchased RX for extra space when its more than my wife and I. For two of us current NX fits comfortably. But for a family of four, RX will be better.

I have gone from an RX to an NX twice now. Upgraded our 2013 RX 350 to a 2016 NX 300h, then from a 2021 RX 450h to an NX 450h+. We are really enjoying being in an NX again, especially as a PHEV. Others here have articulated the differences pretty well. For two occupants, the front row of the NX is plenty comfortable, but as others have stated, it isn’t quite as quiet and the ride is slightly more jostling (the NX 450h+ is a Luxury model and quieter than my first generation premium model). The NX has less leg room in the rear seats, although still adequate for occasional occupants. If you regularly have rear seat passengers, I think you may prefer the RX. The NX 450h+ is more fun though, with 304 horsepower and strong torque. As for storage in the rear, the RX has a bit more space, but the NX rear window is less steeply raked so the real difference isn’t as great as one might imagine.

We drive a 2020 RX 450H F-Sport and our daughter a 2025 NX 450H+. The RX does feel smoother and quieter but only on bumpy roads. On smooth roads or on the highway, we can't tell the difference.

The NX trunk space is significantly smaller, however. The RX trunk space is not that great in the first place. But with two people most of the time, we can drop the backs of the rear seats and that gives us sufficient storage space.

If for some reason we have to replace the RX today, it'll be with an NX450H+.

Default right choice

Just purchased a 2026 NX, trading in our 2022 RX. This was our fifth RX and first NX, So glad.
This latest NX is like driving a sports car, so much fun. The tech is amazing.
Recommend test riding both. The RX is exceptional, the NX is a best buy.
Thanks for asking

We replaced our 2004 Gen2 RX330, which we owned from new, with a from-new 2024 NX 450H+. On paper their overall lengths are virtually identical. I think the NX is actually a bit wider, though. No issues and my wife did not want anything larger than the Gen2 RX330. Both of us have had late model RXs as dealer loaners and they are uncomfortably larger to both of us, mainly in tracking the extra size while driving and parking. I like the Gen2 NX's size and never found its interior cramped or too compact.

One other note, for those in theft prone areas like the GTA, the difference in the cost of insurance is substantial. The RX is still on the most stolen list. I was pricing out insurance coverage for a used 2024 RX and the insurance quoted was almost 3 times what my NX is currently. If I were to install an aftermarket immobilizer in that RX, at the cost of $1500.00 or so, the price of insurance would drop to about 1/2 the non-immobilizer price. That is still some 50% higher than my NX, though. So that may also be a consideration.

I went from a 2nd Gen RX 330 to a 2nd Gen NX 450h+. The Outside Dimensions are similar. However because of rooflines and shape, the cargo space and interior space is slightly smaller in the NX. However, I am glad I got the NX450h+ as it fits my needs now. The Current NX when you look at the spec sheet has more cargo space in the rear when the seats are up compared to the current RX. The RX has more rear passenger space and so when the the seats are folded down, the RX gains cargo space. The NX is the more Nimble Crossover while the RX is more Radiant Crossover which is how Lexus came up with the name. Feature for Feature, the NX is a better deal as said above.

Have owned a few RXs but for cost and asthetic reasons, I just bought an NX PHEV and really like it. Had a full EV for 2+ years and sold it - one reason being we didn't want to wait at charging stations for longer trips (so we drove my wifes' Subaru). With this PHEV, I use the battery for local trips (most of my driving). Then use both battery and gas for longer trips and still with great gas mileage!
As one commenter stated, insurance is a BIG factor and you must compare - not only Lexus brands but other luxury models you might consider.

While nice, comfy, and luxurious, I found the RX a bit soft and disconnected from the road. Went with a 22 NX turbo and love it. Road feel is important to me, and the NX has that. Seating is fine, cargo a bit cramped with all the seats up. My only real complaint is the loudish engine noise during acceleration. Pretty sure it’s piped in via audio with no way to turn it down. Either are excellent, depending on your needs.

Very good summary. I went from a 2015 RX to a 2024 NX and am now anxious to get back into the RX as soon as the 2026's are available.
