Hi All, I'm a newb to Lexus, and new to hybrid cars. I've got a new to me 2022 350H and recently noticed in city driving that the car would automatically start to apply the brake for me as it approaches closer to the car in front of me. When this happens, I can see a white car icon light up in the instrument panel (left side).

It feels like the adaptive cruise control when driving on the highway, except I don't have my cruise control activated when I'm in city driving. If this is a function of the car, is there a way to turn it off? I tried looking for it in the cruise control menu. I was also thinking if this is part of the hybrid regen braking doing it's thing?

That is DA Deceleration Assist which is part of PDA Proactive Driving Assist.

Proactive Driver Assist (PDA) is an active safety feature in certain Toyota and Lexus vehicles that uses cameras and radar to provide gentle, subtle braking and steering assistance to help prevent collisions with pedestrians, cyclists, or parked cars, and to support driving through curves. It functions by monitoring the vehicle's surroundings and can automatically slow the car or nudge the steering wheel to keep the driver from getting too close to obstacles or taking a curve too fast. The system is not a self-driving feature and can be adjusted or turned off entirely by the driver in the vehicle's settings.

Deceleration Assist (DA): If the system detects a preceding vehicle that is slowing down or a pedestrian/cyclist ahead, it can apply mild braking to help the driver slow down, even if the driver's foot isn't on the pedal.

You can also adjust the sensitivity of the system without completely disabling it.

This for the RX but it's similar on the NX.

Thanks again. I would not have known to navigate there to shut off specific features. Wished they put it all in the same place!

My NX didn't have the same options to adjust for the PDA unfortunately. Only sensitivity. Maybe because mine is older , 2022?

Mine does and I have a 2022 NX35h built in August of 2022

you adjust the sensitivity setting as the video shows on the RX. It will adjust how early and how hard the assist will work. Braking level & steering input especially

Thanks , but i don't have the option to turn off the "deceleration assist", nor the "obstacles anticipation assist" as in the video. I was hoping to be able to turn that off like in the video, but maybe that's only for RX?

You'll have only 2 options as it relates to the automatic braking that is separate from the cruise control and that is turn on or off "Proactive Driving Assist" and the sensitivity setting for it.

I would urge anyone wanting to turn of the Deceleration Assist to try it for awhile first. I've had my NX about a year now. I thought about disabling it, but In retrospect I'd say that its one of my favorite features.
