I saw on Reddit some folks reporting that Google map directions are now working with the HUD. One person said it was "clunky," but working.
I'll give it a try next time we drive somewhere, but I wanted to start the conversation.

 

Mine has always worked fine, wired or wireless.

 

I tried it, Google still doesn’t have HUD capability it seems, at least in the U.S. Nothing came up on HUD while using maps.

 

Where are you seeing this? I saw apple people have this updated but I haven't seen it work yet. Maybe slow update like how Apple got a quick button to factory os firs then android got it months later

What phone are you using and what year is your car. I was specifically told when I bought the car, HUD directions were only available on toyota native nav or apple maps. I have a 2025 and using samsung flip 7

I have a iPhone XR and I used it yesterday Aug 30/'25 and it's now showing directions in HUD. It wasn't doing that a day before so Aug 29. My version of Google maps is 25.35.0 I'm on iOS 18.6.2
It works both wired and wirelessly too.

 

Seems like its with google maps 25.35.0. Not currently available on my phone so I assume I'll get it sometime september hopefully

I use Android Auto and Google Maps with in it. I updated Maps and the HUD is not displaying directions. I suspect there will need to be an update to Android Auto to get it to work along with the update that has been made to Maps.

 

I tried it yesterday and it didn't work. I just updated the Google Maps app, I'll have to try again tonight and see if it works now.

 

I'm running Google Maps 25.35.0 (Beta test) on Android OS, and it doesn't work.

 

Sorry for the false alarm. I tried today on a 40 minute drive and no HUD display. Disappointing.

 

It works for me, but doesn't stay on the HUD at all times.
It only shows when you are close to the next "direction", it also shows on the speedometer, but then it just never came back lol

I tried it a couple times yesterday. Upgraded to latest version of Google Maps, restarted phone, it didn't work. Apple Maps has always worked in the HUD and was hoping for Google Maps to work now too, but no luck for me.

 

We don't seem to know what the key is to get it to work, but there are numerous reports of folks saying that it just started working. I tried various updating for a day and couldn't get it to work. The next day it did work. Who knows.
